Veterinary diagnostic testing evolution, innovation, research and solutions
About us
MI:RNA Diagnostics have developed a novel early disease detection technology for the veterinary market that uses microRNA biomarkers to accurately identify if disease is present, through blood sample analysis. By combining this method with an artificial intelligence learning model to enable interpretation, they have adopted a true precision medicine approach. Paving the way, they hope, for many other innovative solutions in this field. It is their mission to reduce disease through research and innovation, resulting in a cascade of ethical, environmental, and economic benefits.

*CPD webinar* When: Tuesday 2nd of July 7pm-8pm UK Where: E-Learning Vet This Tuesday 2nd of July we will hear from our CEO and Founder Eve Hanks, and Co-Founder Dr Robert Coultous CTO with guest speaker Professor Jo Dukes – McEwan, Professor of Veterinary Cardiology at the Department of Small Animal Clinical Science, Institute of Veterinary Science, University of Liverpool, at an online CPD event. The webinar will discuss “Advances in Early Identification of Cardiac Disease in Small Animals” With one in ten of our animal companions affected, cardiac disease is highly prevalent with certain breeds predisposed. However, diagnosis is complex with difficulties in interpretation. Clinically this leads to a ‘wait and see’ approach or specialist investigation where accessible and affordable. During this webinar, the trio will discuss the groundbreaking microRNA technology which could accurately identify pre-clinical heart disease in our pets, with a simple and affordable blood sample. This session will be hosted by @elearning.vet and will be recorded. Registrants will be able to watch live or at a later date. E.Learning Vet provides a free variety of CPD sessions available to those in the veterinarian profession. Interested in joining us? Register here: https://lnkd.in/epuEtiWx

Congratulations to Eve Hanks and the team at MI:RNA Diagnostics on this achievement.
This year we have decided to bestow three of our Impact Awards at Royal College Day, the award for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses who have recently made a considerable impact that has affected the profession at large, animal health or welfare, or public health. This year’s recipients are Dr Eve Hanks MRCVS, Thom Jenkins MRCVS and Mark Morton MRCVS. Eve is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of MI:RNA Diagnostics, and was nominated for the impact of her entrepreneurship and innovation on the world of veterinary diagnostics. Thom Jenkins is CEO and co-founder of PetsApp, a veterinary engagement and communication platform that assists veterinary practices and their clients with a variety of tasks including appointment booking, reminders, payments and chat functions. Mark Morton is the initiator and clinical lead for the Canine Cruciate Registry (CCR), a database which aims to improve outcomes for dogs with cranial cruciate ligament ruptures, one of the most common causes of lameness in dogs. The registry is run by RCVS Knowledge, the charity partner of the RCVS, and is working to build an evidence-based in order to better understand which surgical techniques and implants improve patient outcomes. Now that the dust has settled, time to write an appreciation post for our Veterinary Disease Diagnostics Workshop, at the British Embassy, Paris on the 28th of May. The reason why we organised this event was to create opportunities in just a short space of time to forge valuable connections with people in the Animal Health industry from France and Scotland and contribute positively and proactively to animal health and welfare. A warm thank you to Troch Jean-Luc, for representing the SIMV and IDEXX, Vincent Gleize for Ceva Santé Animale, and Pascal BRETON Tech Transfer - Innovation Industrial Valuation for Vetoquinol Global, Muriel Vayssier-Taussat for INRAE and Carnot Laboratorios, stewart burgess for Moredun Research Institute and thank you to Eve Hanks for her excellent presentation and chairing the panel discussion. Thank you as well to Dr. Vincent Martinez - Dyneval and Maciej Parys - CanCan Diagnostics Ltd for showcasing their brilliant start-ups, and to the remaining audience for their active and valuable participation in the discussions. Big thank you to the Scottish Development International and the British Embassy Paris team onsite for hosting and catering for us, and inviting us for dinner afterward in a lovely restaurant near the Embassy. Of course, I can’t forget adding our two superstars, Francois Xavier Dutrieux, PhD and Kevin Rousseau, who were essential in the organisation of this meeting. We hope this is the first of a series of events bringing together the animal health community. #diagnostics #veterinarydisease

This week, Eve Hanks attended the vHive Group meeting in London. The event, part of the SEC’s Investor-Founder Mixer Series, was a fantastic opportunity to connect with innovators and investors in the animal health sector. Hosted in collaboration with the Veterinary Health Innovation Engine (vHive) a strategic alliance between the University of Surrey and Zoetis, the dinner brought together entrepreneurs from the vHive Incubator’s first cohort and investors from the BioCapital Network, all focused on advancing animal health technologies. Eve appreciated the chance to engage with pioneering companies such as: ✔️ Innovent Technology Limited - Enhancing livestock monitoring through optical sensors and machine learning. ✔️ VidiVet - Providing 24/7 instant access to veterinary services via an app. ✔️ Zonova - Embedding antimicrobial technology into medical devices. ✔️ Aviasenze - Revolutionizing chicken barns with smart lighting and digital monitoring. A big thank you to vHive for their support and to all the attending investors from Animal Health Angels, Calculus Capital, Future Planet Capital/UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund, and Sustainable Ventures. The event facilitated meaningful connections and discussions around the future of animal health innovation. #innovation #venturecapital #founder #entrepreneur #animalhealth #onehealth #vHive #networking

Big changes are currently happening in the animal health space, and the Human-Animal bond is at the heart of it. The panel discussion with Julia von Gablenz from Zoetis; Fabien Desiage from Nestlé Purina PetCare Europe; Brian Garish from Mars Veterinary Health; Claude Ecochard 埃科 from Royal Canin, led by Leonor Ladeira from L Catterton made this clear. “Building the ultimate Petcare ecosystem” is key, as Eli Hasson from PHIL Ventures and Dr. Jens Pippig from Fressnapf Holding SE elegantly demonstrated during their plenary session at the Petcare Innovation Summit this morning. With the spike in pet ownership during COVID which keeps flourishing and the growing awareness that pets are playing an essential in their “pet parents” overall wellbeing gives a lot of space for innovation in the wellness space. This allows us, start-ups, to bring new affordable, accessible, digital-oriented, planet-friendly solutions across the sector to predict, prevent, or detect early disease.” #PCI #PCIEU #PetCareInnovations
