It’s east and south east Asian heritage month and over the next few weeks #TeamLNWH will be sharing their career journeys. Meet diabetes nurse specialist Denisse. “I qualified as a nurse in 2005 and started working as a paediatric nurse in the Philippines. In 2010, I was given the opportunity to work as an overseas nurse at Northwick Park Hospital. “I first worked in Kingsley and Sainsbury Ward. In 2017, I joined the Diabetes and Endocrinology Team as a Diabetes Nurse Specialist. “I am now a non-medical prescriber and have supported the implementation of the diabetes virtual ward in Northwick Park Hospital. “The values, traditions, and experiences as a south east Asian have influenced my approach to work and life. “Through the years I have been working in the NHS, I have learned the value of a team working together to deliver a personalised and respectful care to a diverse community. “I find my role rewarding whenever I see an improvement in the patient’s outcome and quality of life. This makes all the hard work worthwhile.”

Patients who repeatedly use A&E are coming under the spotlight as part of an initiative to understand why they attend so frequently. Harshal Goswami is one of two High Intensity User Case Workers employed by the trust’s two emergency departments earlier this summer. Harshal said: “We look into patients’ medical history and socio-economic situation to see if there are any underlying patterns to their behaviour and what we can do to help.

It’s east and south east Asian heritage month and over the next few weeks #TeamLNWH will be sharing their career journeys. Meet Matron Daniel. “I started as an adaptation nurse in 2011, having just arrived from the Philippines, eager to support my family. Initially, I aspired to become a doctor, but I knew that shifting gears would be difficult once I began earning a living. “Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of progressing into roles such as modern matron for integrated medicine, and now, I am about to embark on a new chapter as a lead nurse within the corporate team. “I am deeply grateful to the Trust for recognising and nurturing diverse talents, allowing individuals like myself to rise and lead. I am proud to represent calm and stable leadership. “As a Filipino nurse, I’m honoured to contribute to an environment that values inclusivity and the growth of all its people. “With my commitment to paying it forward, I aim to use my current role to support new nurses, both from overseas and those trained here in the UK. “My ethos is to lead by example, inspire new talent, and provide the same support and encouragement that I received, ensuring that they too can thrive and achieve their full potential.”
