Ending our US trip by seeing Lady Liberty up close and personal 🗽 In between client meetings, I couldn't resist the opportunity to wine and dine my right hand man for an advanced 30th birthday celebration.* *Raphael's bday isn't until July but it's not everyday we get to be in NYC. And it's definitely no longer the case that we're alone and have time to reflect on our incredible journey together! 🎉 I met Raph two years after starting LawAdvisor Ventures at a LegalTech hackathon that he won (I was one of the Judges at the event). He raised funding for his own startup from a conglomerate of law firms, and rejected my many advances. But destiny was on our side: we had face time at the office space funded by his investors (I too was there as the entrepreneur-in-residence). The Aus gov then funded a trip for Raph to mingle with the best of London's tech-scene, and unbeknown to him I too was there. After a great dinner at Smokestak and a few drinks (Chris will say it only takes one), Raph relented on the condition that I acquire his startup. Looking back, this was at a bargain basement price. As many of my network will attest, there is no LawAdvisor without Raph. As we gear up for the next stage of LawAdvisor Ventures and as we look to add further talent to the team, here are my lessons learned about what makes a great executive working relationship: ✔ Ability to wear the friend and work hat: notwithstanding our friendship, tough decisions are made daily. We've made promises to our clients, investors and other stakeholders. Our team is relying on us to achieve our next milestone. For these reasons, work comes first and we don't ever hide from tough conversations. But we never forget that we're all also facing this battle called life together. Shit happens. It's always next person up, and if someone needs to shoulder a bigger workload so that life events are prioritised, then so be it. We do it for the team✊ ✔ Let differences shine: while I'm captain of the ship, the only reason we're here today is because I've found people to compliment my skills, mask my weaknesses, and to shine brighter than me! That's the reason why people like Jessica would recommend Raph for a role (and not me)! Some of our investors too will prefer to deal with Raph, and I'm all for it. As they say, a rising tide lifts all boats and we are creating a culture where everyone's strengths shine so that we can achieve our goals. ✔ Unwavering belief in the vision: building a company is hard! We not only have our 'work' to do, but we all know the buck starts and ends with us. We're responsible for team cohesion and culture, prospecting, deadlines and client success. The persistence, dedication and work ethic required to continue to show up each day knowing that we have a gargantuan task ahead of us is second to none. Raphael - let's get to the promise land so that I can invest in your next company. You're still young enough to do this all over again! Happy advanced 30th!

I was born in the Philippines but migrated to Australia at a very young age. I consider myself a proud Australian first, but I'll always be Filipino second. As LawAdvisor Ventures has grown and built offices worldwide (Australia, London, Portugal, and Philippines to name a few), I cant help but feel extra proud to not only give back to my country of birth, but to cast a spotlight on the amazing talent housed in our Philippines office. We have a growing talent pool of engineers, product designers, creatives, quality assurance testers and people operations specialists just to name a few. Earlier this February, we moved to a new office space in Manila (thanks KMC Solutions) but equally as exciting was to be able to attend my very first LawAdvisor wedding. We had many of our international colleagues visit Philippines for the first time to attend Jessa Catedral's absolutely magical island ceremony 🔔 But perhaps the cherry on the cake was to be able to spend a weekend with my Australian born nephew and take him around the Philippine islands for his first canyoning and waterfall trek (at under 8 months of age)! 🌴🥥 Thank you LawAdvisor Manila and thank you, Philippines!

Started 2024 the way we left 2023: #winning 🚀 Great to see my man Lebron deliver another 'W', but even better sitting courtside with Jenn McCarron talking about the winning mindset, leadership, the science of achieving greater things, microbiomes, and everything in between 💥 Thanks for allowing Raphael Cardona and I conduct our first discovery and design jam of the year. Awesome to be able to collaborate and exchange ideas, design rapid-fire prototypes using LawAdvisor Ventures' microservices, and to push the boundaries of #legaltech.
