Our team in Cottesmore is proud to share their contributions to a project with Amey aimed at enhancing biodiversity. The Amey arborist team is working at military camps located in woodland areas where tree works and removals have taken place, as part of their commitment to creating wildlife-friendly spaces and giving back to the community. Amey has been transforming areas into thriving habitats, including RAF Wittering, where we provide property maintenance services. To support the project, we contributed four bat boxes, five bird boxes, and a robin box, all made from recycled timber offcuts. These materials, which would have otherwise been discarded, now have a renewed purpose in supporting local wildlife. The addition of these wildlife boxes forms part of a broader project that also includes establishing a wildflower meadow, planting new trees, revising the grass-cutting plan, and constructing habitat piles. The team at Amey also engages with local groups like the Cub Scouts and nearby schools to help maintain and nurture the space, fostering greater community involvement. Improvements to the woodland areas are already showing promise, with various wildflowers now in bloom. A huge well done to the branch for your involvement in this fantastic cause. We can’t wait to see how these spaces evolve! #CLCGroup #Amey #Biodiversity #WoodlandRestoration #CommunityEngagement #SocialValue #Sustainability

CLC is proud to have contributed to the construction of the new Belper Shed in Derbyshire by donating surplus materials. This fantastic community space is part of the UK Men's Sheds Association, which aims to bring people together to reduce loneliness and improve well-being through creative activities like woodworking, metalwork, and embroidery. The organisation encourages collaboration in making, repairing, and repurposing, while supporting local community projects. The Belper Shed is being built by volunteers using as many repurposed materials as possible, including our donations. Handley Farm has kindly offered an empty barn, which will be renovated to become the workshop, with plans for an extension to include a reception and kitchen area. Our Shepshed team recently donated a range of spare materials and leftover supplies, including headboards, a door, grab rails, a toilet, floor and wall tiles, kitchen cabinets, worktops, and paint. “Thank you so much for your generous donation. It was great to meet you all, and we are immensely grateful for your support. All the materials will be put to good use”. – Handley Care Farm. This has been a brilliant opportunity for us to support the community while reducing waste by finding a use for surplus materials. We can’t wait to see how the space develops and look forward to further opportunities to help this cause. Our Plymouth branch had a fantastic time at the Exeter City Council Safety Day. The event was part of Exeter Housing Week, which offered vital information and support for those seeking housing advice through pop-up housing surgeries and family-friendly activity days across the city. The Community Safety Day, held at Summerway Play Park in Willow Way, featured free ice cream, a fire engine, face painting, and health and safety information from housing staff and organisations like Devon and Cornwall Police and Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue. The housing teams provided essential guidance for residents while offering plenty of fun activities to engage the younger generation. Our Plymouth team was delighted to contribute by providing safety gear for children to try on, helping them learn more about the protective equipment we use. They also set up a craft table where kids could paint wooden animal which proved to be a popular activity and was a big hit! Additionally, the branch provided a portaloo for the event. It was fantastic to see the community come together and be a part of this important initiative. The day provided a chance to spread awareness about community safety as while enjoying a day of fun for the families. #CLCGroup #ExeterCityCouncil #Exeter #SafetyDay #Community #HealthandSafetyAwareness #SocialValue

CLC participated in the North East Lincolnshire Skills Fair, held in July at Grimsby Auditorium. The event provided students with insights into various career paths and opportunities available to them after school, whether they choose further education or to go straight into work. The fair was organised by North East Lincolnshire Council and was supported by Franklin College and Grimsby Institute. More than 2,000 Year 10 students had the chance to engage with over 60 exhibitors, including academic institutions, local businesses, and representatives from the British Army and the NHS. CLC was among the exhibitors, showcasing the opportunities available in the construction and property maintenance sectors. The team brought along a mock-up fireproofing training wall, offering students a hands-on experience that resulted in brilliant engagement. It was a great day talking with students about their potential futures in the industry. “I wanted to say thank you very much to you and your colleagues for supporting the North East Lincolnshire Skills Fair, your contribution led to another fantastic event. We are thrilled to share our involvement in a very special event organised by the Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership. CLC was a part-sponsor of the ice cream van hired for the Children’s Summer Event, ensuring that all children, foster carers, and volunteers could enjoy an ice cream during the celebrations. The Surrey Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) was established to ensure the safety and welfare of children in Surrey. It involves collaboration among various organisations, including Surrey County Council, Surrey Police, and the NHS Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board. These partners work together to create and oversee strategies that protect children in the community. “Our much-loved Children’s Summer Event was a huge success for our looked-after children and foster carers, and this is entirely down to the generous sponsorships that made the day possible. Our Executive Director gave a speech halfway through the day and expressed thanks to our many sponsors, including CLC, whose generosity made the event possible!” - Project Manager, Surrey County Council. The event was a celebration and a thank you to the incredible foster carers and volunteers for their unwavering dedication, care, and love. The day was a huge success and was enjoyed by all. We are proud to have been involved in this event and glad to hear that the ice cream went down a treat! #CLCGroup #IceCream #Sponsorship #Surrey #SurreyCouncil #SurreySafeguardingChildrenPartnership #SocialValue #SummerEvent

Over the past 12 months, Mark Lewis, Alex Horsfall and the team from our dedicated electrical division, have been hard at work providing labour and materials to the construction of a new garden for Andover Mind. The project has seen the charity collaborate with Sparsholt College and the Waitrose & Partners Leckford Estate, in their mission to enhance mental wellbeing while raising awareness about the challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. We are thrilled to announce the project's successful completion as well as the honour of attending the opening ceremony. The event saw a fantastic turnout of over 100 people, including the local Mayor, the CEO of John Lewis & Partners Nish Kankiwala, and many of the contractors and organisations that contributed to this wonderful initiative. The project is a testament to the power of collaboration, with numerous trades and providers coming together to make a real difference. The new garden will benefit the local community, offering a serene space for relaxation and a practical environment for Sparsholt College students to hone their horticultural skills. Andover Mind is a charity that supports communities across Hampshire in the fight for better mental health. They support people with poor mental health, those living with dementia and cognitive impairment, as well as adult carers. Mind is a charity deeply committed to supporting the local community, and we are proud to have played a part in their mission. Our team dedicated significant effort and resources to support this project, providing all needed electrical installations onsite. We are looking forward to seeing the impact the garden will have. Well done to everyone involved in this fantastic cause! #CLCGroup #CommunitySupport #Collaboration #MentalHealth #JohnLewisPartnership #AndoverMind #SparsholtCollege

As the academic year draws to a close and students begin their well-deserved summer holidays, we would like to take this opportunity to showcase two work experience placements that students have undertaken with us in recent weeks. These placements have provided invaluable insights and hands-on experience, offering students a unique glimpse into the dynamic and ever-evolving construction industry. Grace spent a week with our Newcastle team, gaining experience both in the office and onsite. At the branch office, she learned about essential administration processes, while acquiring transferable skills useful in any industry. Onsite, Grace worked with Quantity Surveyors and Contract Managers, learning about contract documents, health and safety procedures, and project planning. Grace expressed her gratitude, saying: “This experience has formed a positive foundation for my working life as the well organised structure of CLC has taught me how skills of all employees can be combined to develop a successful and sustainable business. I hope to continue to get a deeper understanding into the business via further work experience as I feel it will be beneficial to my future and a great opportunity to explore a prosperous business.” During his week with our team in Plymouth, Aiden demonstrated keen interest and a proactive attitude. He visited sites, learned about various roles, and experienced a day in the life of a Contracts Manager. Aiden engaged with our operatives and participated in project discussions at two locations. He was actively involved in client conversations about completed and additional works, showing attentiveness and eagerness to learn. Additionally, Aiden learned the basics of measuring for redecoration pricing and how we capture these measures. His enthusiasm and readiness to help were evident throughout his time with the team. CLC continues to support young people in our communities as they start their career journeys. Deciding the next step in life can be daunting, but we hope that by offering these work experience weeks, we are making a difference and giving them with the confidence and skills necessary to embark on their career paths. #CLCGroup #WorkExperience #Newcastle #Plymouth #SkillsForLife #Careers
