Designing for People: unlocking real human understanding to connect people with brands.
About us
We are Carat, the most progressive media agency network in the world. Our people, culture and organisation, are dedicated to designing for people - this is the clear and simple message that drives all that we do. We encourage our people to show a continual passion to be brave, to experiment, to re-invent and to help push the work we do further and faster, while consistently looking for fresh and better ways of growing our client’s brands and driving measurable business performance. This all comes to life in a culture that recognises that diverse perspectives are a necessity to drive innovation. A fast-paced but balanced working environment encouraging everyone to be the best version of themselves. Carat is part of Japanese powerhouse, Dentsu, the global communications network who strive to promote “Kaizen” within their agencies. All organisations within our network complement rather than compete against each other. We have one integrated P&L, which promotes co-operation and collaboration and places our clients’ business needs at our heart, allowing access to a truly holistic marketing offering of best-in-class expertise and capabilities in media, innovation and technology. Consistently at the top of RECMA’s Global Qualitative Evaluation ranking, Carat serves some of the UK’s largest brands, including Kellogg’s, Mondelēz, Co-operative Group, Kraft Heinz, Vodafone, Mastercard, Microsoft and Santander.

Chris Marsh, Managing Director, Carat & dentsu Edinburgh with Cara Chambers, CMO, C&C Group spoke against the motion ‘AI is the best marketing tool ever’ in the Amplify debate scoring a hard fought victory against great competition. And Carat’s Izabela Krajka - along with Dentsu Creative's Mihalis Michailidis - participated in the Creative Challenge: Clients vs Agencies, securing a neck and neck win for team agency! #caratproud #amplify24 #edinburgh #marketing

WORK | Co-op is reconnecting with its heritage through a bold new brand platform and a comprehensive, multiplatform campaign. 'Owned By You, Right By You' aims to reintroduce Co-op to the nation, emphasising the unique social and financial advantages of its co-operative business model. This initiative comes in response to findings that over 50% of consumers are unaware of what a co-operative business actually is. At the heart of the campaign is a 60-second stop-motion animation film created using printed till receipts, presenting Co-op's story in a refreshingly unique way. Airing tonight (Wednesday, 17 July) during Coronation Street on ITV1, the campaign will kick off with an innovative teaser—an ITV first—in which the channel's logo turns black and white, aligning with the campaign's receipt motif. The film will also feature on BVOD, YouTube, and in premium cinema spots. Additionally, there's a bespoke, targeted OOH plan, which includes a hand-painted mural in Manchester's Northern Quarter and placements in the London Underground. An audio call to action via Say It Now will further engage audiences, driving them to sign up for Co-op memberships. We're incredibly proud of the campaign which lives and breathes dentsu's Sanpo Yoshi principle (good for business, people and society), and even prouder of the people behind the work: Kate Burrows, Bella Smith, Chris Davies, Lisa Crowther, Becks O'Mahoney, Rishab Jolly, Alexandra Sturgess, John McNamee, Charis Jellett, Claudia Hall, Denia Souli-Vounisiou, Kai Radcliffe, Nina Clark, Abigail Clarke, Elizabeth Adcock, Simon Mayfield and Flora Kong. Carat UK reposted this
Client Managing Director, Co-Chair dentsuProud (LGBTQ+ Network) Manchester Publicity Association Board Member
Here at dentsu we work hard to create an inclusive, diverse culture where every body feels welcome. Where all our team can be their true authenntic self. We pride ourselves in sharing this vision with our clients and partners. This year marks the fourth year of our ‘dentsu and Friends’ campaign, with OOH space secured from our friends at JCDecaux UK. We placed the pride flag on billboards across the UK, with the design now on display throughout London for an estimated 10 million people to see. The campaign aims to highlight that Pride was always a protest. Hate crime statistics released late 2023 (ONS) reveal that England and Wales continues to become a less safe place for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people. The increase in hate crimes against trans people by 11% in a year, and by 186% in the last five years. Until 2015, ILGA-Europe – one of the continent’s biggest LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, based in Brussels – consistently described Britain as the most queer-friendly place in Europe. But a failure to ban conversion therapy and a toxic row over rights for trans people have seen the UK fall dramatically. According to the organisation’s annual Rainbow Map, the UK now places 16th – below Spain, Greece, Belgium, and Ireland. This is one spot higher than last year’s ranking of 17th place, but down from 14th place in 2022. #Pride #LGBTQ #DEI #Diversity #Inclusion https://lnkd.in/eviTcPgV

WORK | Co-op Funeralcare has teamed up with Channel 4 for 'Celebrity Send-Off', a new, social-first branded entertainment series. This three-part series, featuring celeb duos, including Shaun Ryder and Bez, aims to break the taboo around discussing funeral wishes and empowering everyone to have open and honest conversations with their loved ones. The celebs will get some of it right, some of it wrong, and some of it downright bizarre. The salient point is that "talking now helps your loved ones later," which is Co-op Funeralcare's new brand ethos. Flora Kong, Client Managing Director, says, "With 'Celebrity Send-Off', we are boldly addressing a traditionally taboo subject, bringing it into the public eye with grace and distinction. The campaign is poised to ignite a cultural shift, encouraging open dialogue about funeral wishes in a manner that is both respectful and engaging." The first episode is out now, with the following two episodes dropping through July: https://lnkd.in/edXnQHHT Props to our incredible dentsu team Alison Mitchell, Andrew Kimpson, Heather Lynn, Alexandra Maver, Hamzah Mehmood, Tom Goddard, Claudia Hall, Funmi Adebanjo and our brilliant partners, Lucky Generals for bringing this project to life.
