"Thanks to the Countryfile team for covering our and Cariad’s work Just wish to clarify we are so grateful to Cwmpass for advising Câr-y-Môr to be a CBS allowing all to join for £1 and be equal owners. Due to being a CBS for 4 years: - We have a fabulous growing 450 membership - many of which volunteer and have invested. We have raised £2million providing 14 jobs and 3 regenerative ocean farms and started building a Sied Y Môr. Our aim is to develop the seaweed Biostimulant Market to hopefully help reduce the Biosythentic fertiliser use and help regenerate our farm land - trying to farm land and sea as one ecosystem. We appreciate we are innovative and fragile and need all the help and support we can get from the farming sector and Gov and NGOs if we are going to help start this new sector and hopefully help future generations of coastal communities especially fishermen and gatherers and all this with generations of knowledge regarding our incredible seas. We hope CBS’s will be an alternative way of doing business bringing benefit to all society and our wonderful planet."

From July to December we have the seasonal privilege of being able to offer the sweetest Welsh cockles of all from the Grade A beds of the Dee Estuary. This is only possible due to the skills of Welsh Cockle gatherers like Gorse. Dealing with someone like Gorse is rare. Hugely skilled and knowledgeable in his profession, he is able to handle the grueling physicality of the work in all weathers. Gathering this healthy and sustainable food, he is ensuring we don't lose this iconic Welsh coastal tradition.  With around 90% of Welsh seafood now being exported, inevitably we have lost all our Welsh Fish markets and transport networks. Resultantly our Welsh fishermen and gatherers, and their seafood, are less and less known about in their communities.   However we are seeing a genuine, growing interest for people to celebrate this coveted Welsh Seafood here at home. This small but growing interest is helping to reconnect the fishermen and gatherers with their local communities. Chefs like Tomos Parry, Kim Songsoo and their team who run Mountain, BRAT, KILN and Smoking Goat in London are a pleasure to work with. Their passion for sourcing the best quality, sustainable Welsh seafood aligns exactly with what CYM is trying to achieve. This common ground is why the relationship works so well.  Alongside partners like these, we aim to increase understanding of the unbelievable range of quality shellfish our Welsh seas can provide. So much of it has been forgotten about, here in Wales, but it’s here in abundance right on our doorstep. We must support and embrace its seasonality and the amazing potential benefits. Otherwise we risk losing it and the extraordinary knowledge and traditions of the fisherman and gatherers in our coastal communities.  We have the privilege of offering Class A Fresh Welsh cockles, thanks to the growing CYM community. We’re so grateful to work with a growing number of fishermen, farmers, gatherers all with such a wealth of experience. These individuals are key to the community we are building, CYM just wouldn’t exist without them. Together we wish to provide the best quality Welsh Seafood from small scale, sustainable, brilliant individuals. All for the good of our coastal community.  Thanks/Diolch to you all from this far West corner of Wales, that we’re lucky enough to call home.

Last week, we attended the Social Business Wales Awards in the Senedd. It was an evening to celebrate the incredible work that is being done by social businesses across the country; a network that we are incredibly proud to be a part of. We are honoured to have received Social Enterprise of the Year and truly humbled by the recognition. We would like to thank the extended Câr-Y-Môr community: members, shareholders, volunteers and our supporters. You are all essential in the maintenance and development of this exciting community benefit society, and we certainly wouldn’t be where we are today without you. We would also like to thank Cwmpas for the continued support that we receive and the other nominees across all the categories.
