🆕 Introducing C-Further: an international consortium for children's cancer therapeutics. Today, Cancer Research Horizons and LifeArc launched the C-Further consortium, a pioneering international initiative dedicated to developing new medicines exclusively for children’s and young people’s cancers. “This consortium is about changing the narrative for young cancer patients and giving them the chance to live healthier, longer lives,” said Dr Iain Foulkes, Executive Director of Research and Innovation at Cancer Research UK and Chief Executive Officer for Cancer Research Horizons. Developing new treatments for children’s and young people’s cancers can be incredibly complex - but that's what C-further is aiming to tackle. Together, their aim is to remove barriers to progress and advance innovative treatments for childhood cancers. #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth #CRUKYoungPeople #CFurther

Sânziana Foia wants to give women the choice to do cervical screening in the comfort of their own homes, so she has created Papcup, a self-testing device that detects human papillomavirus (HPV) in minutes, to do just that. Unlike the tests offered by the NHS today, Papcup is designed to spot high-risk HPV infections that could lead to cervical cancer in menstrual blood. If trials show it works as intended, Papcup could be like a 2 for 1 special: not only a sample collection kit, but also a testing device. It has the potential to remove some of the biggest barriers to cervical screening, helping many more eligible people take part. If implemented into the NHS cervical screening programmes, it could even help reduce the strain on healthcare services. How does it work? 👇 #CervicalScreening #SelfSampling #CervicalCancer #CancerNews Cancer Research Horizons

New research has revealed that symptom triggered testing can diagnose aggressive ovarian cancers before they spread 🩺 Since 2011, the NHS has offered this sort of rapid testing from women with frequent symptoms such as abdominal pain and bloating. Previously, some experts had thought this approach could only find cervical cancer in its more advanced stages, when it is harder for doctors to treat. However, the new study found that 1 in 4 women diagnosed through symptom triggered testing had early stage cancers, meaning surgeons could plan operations to completely remove them. Thanks to this research, led by a team at the University of Birmingham and supported by our funding, it's becoming clear that awareness of symptoms can help improve early detection and survival rates for ovarian cancer. Delighted by the re-launch of our Tesco health charity partnership. Bringing together the expertise of Tesco, Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK to tackle the nation’s biggest health challenges. The partnership has achieved fantastic things since it first launched in 2018 and will continue to do so by empowering communities to lead healthier lives with more information and support about cancer, heart and circulatory disease and type-2 diabetes. Our partners play a key role in beating cancer and I'm delighted this health charity partnership will continue thanks to Tesco's ongoing support.
When it comes to leading healthier lives, we believe that every little help can make a big difference. That’s why we’re excited to continue our Health Charity Partnership with Diabetes UK, British Heart Foundation, and Cancer Research UK (CRUK). Here's a few things to look out for... 💙 You can now drop into your local pharmacy, where our colleagues have been given additional training from the charities to help customers lower their risk of conditions like cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart and circulatory disease. 🍲 Together, we’ve created new recipes to help manage and reduce the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. This morning on BBC Breakfast, the important work of Black in Cancer was highlighted, featuring insights from Sigourney Bonner, Magda Ali and Randy Greaves at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. Our Director of Evidence and Implementation Naser Turabi then joined presenters Ben and Sally on the breakfast sofa to shed light on the complexities of cancer inequalities and the dedicated efforts we are making to address them. Together, we are working to tackle health inequalities and improve outcomes for those from minority backgrounds, as well as emphasise the need for better representation in research 💪 #BlackinCancer #CancerResearch #DiversityInResearch

I’m pleased to share my 6 monthly update on Cancer Research UK (CRUK)'s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy and plan. Like many of us, I am upset and angry about the unacceptable racist violence and riots that we’ve witnessed in recent weeks and welcome the opportunity to share what EDI means to our organisation. Beating cancer means beating it for everyone. Please take the time to read about our progress, challenges and how we’re building new ambitions for the future. Your feedback is welcome.
