The incumbent, in the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM), will curate and grow the Orthoptera section and other assigned sections of the Entomology collection at LKCNHM of high scientific and biodiversity research interest in Southeast Asia. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following
Curation and development of the collection of LKCNHM in an area with high curatorial and research needs (e.g., insects).
Operation and supervision of curation activities such as a consolidated loan system, new preservation techniques, sub-sampling of specimens for cryo-preservation and molecular research, databasing, and specimen digitization.
Assistance with consultancies, collection acquisitions, research management, and addressing scientific questions from the public.
Boost LKCNHM’s research profile by leading taxonomic studies and collaborating with entomologists and other scientists regionally and globally.
Qualifications
MSc or above in specimen-based biodiversity research or curation of natural history collections.
Taxon-specific expertise relevant to the sections of the Entomology collection which have high curatorial and research needs.
Strong English writing and verbal skills.
Documented ability to multi-task and work well in a team.
Desirable skills:
Experience with supervising a team working on insect specimens.
Experience in databasing, specimen digitization, sampling of tissues for DNA extraction from biodiversity specimens.
Internationally recognized expertise on insects that are species-rich in Singapore or Southeast Asia.
Singapore Class 3 driving license.
