As part of its road safety initiative, the Puma Energy Foundation has partnered with Transaid to develop a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) driver training standard in Ghana.   In Ghana, the number of HGVs on the road are growing thanks to new critical infrastructure development. More HGVs mean more drivers, raising the importance of training for safe driving practices.   As an independent philanthropic entity, The Puma Energy Foundation provides long-term funding to non-profit organisations that tackle vital health challenges related to road safety and access to clean energy in Africa and in Latin America.   Follow Puma Energy Foundation to learn more about the impact that initiatives like these are having on communities.

🚛 Congratulations to our partner Transaid for their crucial role in launching a standardised training programme for Heavy Goods Vehicle #HGV drivers in #Ghana. In early July, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (#DVLA), in partnership with the Government of Ghana, launched an instructor’s training manual and curriculum to enhance truck drivers' competency and promote road safety across the region. Transaid developed and implemented this foundational project as part of a three-year initiative that began in February 2021. It represents a significant milestone in empowering drivers and ensuring safer roads and transport through comprehensive training, evaluation criteria, and certification. Our Foundation is proud to have supported the #HGV driver training standard project since its inception, showcasing our commitment to #RoadSafety, a key theme of our strategy 💪

Last week Puma Energy celebrated the opening of a 200 kWp solar power and battery system at the Kariba Minerals mine site in Zambia alongside partners ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc and government representatives.   Located in a remote district of southern Zambia, the mine has never been connected to the main power grid. Now, thanks to the new 200kW solar plant, around 1,724 tonnes of CO2 will be saved each year.   In a speech during the opening ceremony, Puma Zambia General Manager Patricio Chababo said "the signficance of this project extends beyond the installation of solar panels and battery storage. It represents a successful collaboration between business and government and showcases the power of partnership in driving sustainable energy solutions."   This project represents our offering to our industrial customers seeking lower carbon energy solutions to support their decarbonization objectives.

In sub-Saharan Africa, traffic accidents are among the leading cause of death of young people. Puma Energy’s BeRoadSafe programme aims to improve the safety of African children on the roads today, and to prepare them to be responsible road users in the future. The programme is a partnership between Puma Energy and NGO Amend with the support of local partners, including safety councils and the police. Through our BeRoadSafe programme we have reached more than 38,000 children across 20 schools in Botswana, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.   We look forward to expanding this program across more locations in the future and thank our partners for helping children and communities to #BeRoadSafe.

This week Puma Energy Zimbabwe inaugurated our new fuel storage facility at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Airport, further reinforcing our commitment to supporting the country’s growing aviation and travel industry.   Zimbabwe's Minister of Energy and Power Development, Hon. Edgar Moyo joined Puma Energy leadership, including CEO Hadi Hallouche, Head of Africa Fadi Mitri and Zimbabwe General Manager Donatien Kodog to commemorate the opening of the one million litre aviation fuel storage facility, which more than doubles our existing storage capacity.   Tourism is a major contributor to the Zimbabwean economy, and the sector is projected to grow by 6.9% in 2024. Hon. Edgar Moyo said at the event: "This infrastructure development not only signifies a strategic move towards bolstering the nation's aviation sector, it also serves as a pivotal step in supporting our rapidly developing tourism industry and the country’s industrialization ambitions."   The expansion of this storage facility is part of Puma Energy’s ongoing investment in the Zimbabwean market, focused on growing our retail fuel network and storage facilities, developing renewable energy solutions for our B2B customers and supporting local communities.

Puma Energy today announced its financial results for the three-month period ending 31 March 2024. Puma Energy delivered a stable performance in the underlying business and was able to maintain constant unit margins, despite challenges in certain non-core segments. Our core retail and aviation businesses delivered solid results and showed an improvement in gross profit relative to both Q4 2023 and Q1 2023 on a constant perimeter basis. “We are encouraged by the performance of our underlying business across our core regions, which helped offset a challenging quarter for our Bitumen and UK businesses. This reflects the resilience that stems from our diversified portfolio,” said Carlos Pons, Chief Financial Officer of Puma Energy. Read the full release: https://lnkd.in/d4E9epaJ

Puma Energy is proud to join the Clean Cooking Declaration at the International Energy Agency (IEA)'s Summit on Clean Cooking in Africa in Paris this week. We've pledged to take concrete steps towards advancing the clean cooking agenda, through action on the ground, raising awareness, and fostering greater collaboration among the key stakeholders. Approximately 970 million people lack access to clean cooking fuels and technologies in Sub-Saharan Africa. Many households rely on solid fuels such as wood and charcoal, or kerosene, leading to environmental and health hazards. Puma Energy provides safe, reliable and affordable energy solutions across sub-Saharan African Africa, and is encouraging the transition to cleaner, healthier cooking fuels through its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) offering. We believe that LPG for clean cooking is a critical solution to Africa’s energy transition - offering healthier and cleaner cooking alternatives that benefit both people and the environment.
