Singapore's Leading University Hospital | Shaping Medicine • Transforming Care

About us

The National University Hospital (NUH) is Singapore’s leading university hospital. While the hospital at Kent Ridge first received its patients on 24 June 1985, our legacy started from 1905, the date of the founding of what is today the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. NUH is the principal teaching hospital of the medical school. Our unique identity as a university hospital is a key attraction for healthcare professionals who aspire to do more than practise tertiary medical care. We offer an environment where research and teaching are an integral part of medicine, and continue to shape medicine and transform care for the community we care for. We are an academic medical centre with over 1,200 beds, serving more than one million patients a year with over 50 medical, surgical and dental specialties. NUH is the only public and not-for-profit hospital in Singapore to provide trusted care for adults, women and children under one roof, including the only paediatric kidney and liver transplant programme in the country. The NUH is a key member of the National University Health System (NUHS), one of three public healthcare clusters in Singapore. Visit our website at www.nuh.com.sg. We celebrated a decade of being a baby-friendly hospital last Saturday, and families that joined us at the World Breastfeeding Week event gained useful breastfeeding tips. A shout-out to National University Polyclinics and Breastfeeding Mother's Support Group (Singapore) for partnering us. Catch a snippet of what went on! #WBW2024 #BFHI #Breastfeeding ---
World Breastfeeding Week 2024 was organised by National University Centre for Women and Children (NUWoC), a national university specialist centre comprising NUH’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (O&G) and Khoo Teck Puat – National University Children’s Medical Institute (KTP-NUCMI)

  • Prevention is better than cure, and this holds true for injuries as well. To keep the community safe, the National University Centre for Trauma was happy to share some injury prevention tips on two occasions. At Bukit Timah Community Club’s Sports Fiesta, the audience learnt the importance of proper warm-ups, protective gear, appropriate training, and effective recovery techniques. Over 800 students from Fairfield Methodist School (Primary) also gained insights into road, water, and escalator safety, while discovering ways to boost their overall and mental health. We look forward to more of such sessions so as to create a safer environment for all!

  • Should kids watch TV or use mobile phones during meals? Many parents use screen time to keep their kids occupied while eating. A new NUH study suggests that this habit could be linked to developmental issues, which include reduced attention spans, increased aggression, behavioural problems, and more. Dr Jennifer Kiing and Dr Kang Ying Qi discuss the negative impact of screen time on the development of children and how parents can manage screen time. Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/gF8_6iy6 #NUHInTheNews #ChildDevelopment #ScreenTime --- Dr Jennifer Kiing and Dr Kang Ying Qi are Senior Consultants from the Division of Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics, Department of Paediatrics, Khoo Teck Puat - National University Children's Medical Institute, National University Hospital.

The event covered key topics such as the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, medical training, professionalism and ethics, mental health, and neuroscience. Our Assistant Director of Nursing, Carol Chiang, presented advancements in ophthalmic nursing, including intravitreal procedures, fundus angiography, LipiFlow, and BlephEx. Building on this, Senior Staff Nurse Khadijah Binte Othman detailed our experience with implementing nurse-led intravitreal injections, which are aimed at significantly reducing patient wait times. We look forward to more opportunities to share the good work of our nurses.
