  • [ hearth ] Showing from 20 — 28 July 2024, “When Sediment Sinks” reflects on how artworks can trace and map phenomena taking place through time. The exhibition will feature past and new works by Joscelin Chew, Xiaocong Ge, and Huijun Lu, and will showcase a range of mediums including embroidery, ink painting, kinetic installation, photography, and video. Apparent in all the works is an attempt to capture fleeting moments and processes, transforming them into tangible expressions of art. [ hearth ] History is always written by the victors, as a result, certain narratives are glorified over others, and other narratives are then pushed to the margins of obscurity. Whose stories do we hold dear? And whose do we forget? Showing at Art Outreach from 6 – 14 July, 2024, “The Wounded Land Rumbles the Same Ballad” showcases works by Sarita Abeyesundere, Kenenza Michiko, Alya Rahmat, Charlene Ramos, Wan Oi Yin, and Renee Yeo. The exhibition seeks to explore alternative histories and speculative narratives—from folklore and grandfather stories to post-war memories. It aims to amplify voices typically overlooked, providing a platform for these fresh graduates, from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, to delve into themes of belonging, folklore, identity, and social justice. Drawing from their experiences, the artists aim to challenge external expectations and norms, while also confronting internal biases about what constitutes legitimate art and whose voices deserve recognition. Join us in recalibrating and reimagining narratives that resonate with authenticity and truth. We look forward to welcoming you to the show this weekend! - The Wounded Land Rumbles the Same Ballad By Sarita Abeyesundere, Kenenza Michiko, Alya Rahmat, Charlene Ramos, Wan Oi Yin and Renee Yeo Project Coordination by Isabelle Lim 6 – 14 July 2024, 11am to 7pm Art Outreach, 5 Lock Road, #01-06, Gillman Barracks, Singapore 108933

[ hearth ] Opening this Friday at Art Outreach, “This Particular Place” is a group show featuring works by Akai Chew, Chan Wan Kyn, Harshita Agarwal, Leonard Yang, Smiha Kapoor, and Post Museum. Curated by Chew, the exhibition explores displacement as an embodied way of being, highlighting how artists use spaces to express themselves. Inspired by the philosopher Henri Lefebvre, who emphasised the differences in how physical spaces are thought, experienced, and seen, “This Particular Place” hopes to illustrate how these spaces influence our behaviour, shaping our perceptions and experiences, and uncovering the stories we tell ourselves about our dwellings. In a world where modern technology and capital can bridge large distances, the exhibition suggests new ways to observe and engage with the spaces around us. Utilising various mediums—from drawing and painting to new media installations and performance art—this exhibition offers a multifaceted view of architectural and urban spaces. - This Particular Place Featuring Akai Chew, Chan Wan Kyn, Harshita Agarwal, Leonard Yang, Smiha Kapoor & Post Museum.
