The European Hydrogen Bank (EHB) is a key driver of Europe's transition to a hydrogen-powered future. Established to boost investment in sustainable hydrogen production and reduce reliance on Russian fossil fuels, the EHB plays a vital role in Europe's strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. With an ambitious target to produce 10 million tons of renewable hydrogen domestically by 2030, alongside importing another 10 million tons, the EHB is set to reshape the hydrogen landscape across Europe. Building on the success of the first hydrogen auction, a second round is anticipated to be launched by the end of 2024. This innovative initiative is designed to expand the production of renewable hydrogen within the European Economic Area (EEA). Supported by a 1.2 billion euro investment, with a special focus on maritime applications, this auction seeks to narrow the cost gap between renewable and fossil-based hydrogen, thereby enhancing the economic feasibility of renewable hydrogen.

No company in the energy industry needs another software just for the sake of it. In fact, most companies try to avoid having too many software solutions if no real value is added, no matter how much AI is involved. It costs money, it requires onboarding. If this is true, why to offer a software solution for industrial verticals dealing with large and risky pre-investment decisions and yearly long development process. What is the "Job To Be Done"? Models 🤔?—Most engineers and tech teams can throw something together, but getting them really right is a whole different story. Not the ultimate game changer but super important. A good model might be instrumental but is nobody's goal Data 💸?—Hard to find and expensive, we all know paying or investing a lot of time and team resources for good data is crucial for making smart decisions. Good models combined with reliable data sets are already valuable as they help you de-risk the decision process from gate to gate. Analytics & Insights🎯?—This is where the real value is in my opinion and experience. The stuff that empowers managers, project & business developers to de-risk their projects and make decisions to move forward from early stage to investment decision, step by step (the actual Job To Be Done) without relying on elusive tech-centered engineering teams or obscure non-committed and expensive consultants. 🚀 If reliable models, with accurate data, capable of delivering relevant technical analytics and business insights, are productized in a intuitive, time-efficient and transparent software solution, a final set of customer values can be delivered: A place of trust & consensus for decision making. Energy companies are used to designing profitable projects, but adding the hydrogen component into the equation creates multiple new challenges. The aim of Southern Lights is leveraging software and technology to “permit the renewables company to take this step and not fail while trying, since it’s very risky and easy to make errors,” said Felipe Gallardo in this interview with BNamericas.
