We are thrilled to announce that our Upfield Food Science Centre in Wageningen has been certified as BREEAM-NL Outstanding - the highest level of sustainability certification for buildings. Achieving BREEAM Outstanding is an incredible feat - less than 1% of new commercial buildings qualify for this level. Out of 897 buildings assessed in the Netherlands, the Upfield Food Science Centre ranks in the top 7%. BREEAM evaluates buildings across all aspects of sustainability - from energy efficiency and waste reduction to health, social value, and biodiversity. Earning Outstanding recognises our Food Science Centre as being in the top tier globally for sustainable design and operation. We're proud to have partnered with Nelissen ingenieursbureau BV, Van Wijnen and Unica to construct an environmentally state-of-the-art facility powered by 100% renewable electricity. Initiatives like water-saving sanitation, optimal daylighting and rooftop biodiversity planting all contributed to the outstanding 88.49% score. The certification reflects Upfield's commitment to sustainability across our operations. As we develop the plant-based foods of the future, we aim to do so in facilities that minimise environmental impact.
