A huge congratulations goes out to Dunlop Builders on winning the CARTERS Commercial Award as well as securing a Gold Award at The 2024 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards with their extraordinary project "The Dunlop Hub". The accolades don't stop there, this build also achieved Passive House Plus certification — a first for a New Zealand office building. 👏 The judges comments and photos truly showcase this project's success and excellence. "This project successfully combined high-quality architectural design and environmentally conscious decision-making with commercial viability, achieving impressive results. Adhering to the strict Passive House Plus standards for environmental performance required early and ongoing coordination. This commitment has earned the Hub the distinction of being the seventh commercial building globally, to achieve a Passive House Plus rating. Focusing on reducing construction and operational carbon emissions was central to the project, with careful selection of materials playing a crucial role. These choices helped lower carbon emissions in everything from the concrete foundations to the timber framework, internal finishes and even the office furniture." #proudsponsor #awards

The NZ Building People Awards are currently open for nominations. Last year Garyth Jones of NZ Strong Group was the winner of the $25 - 50 Million Project Award for his work leading the South East Asia Precinct project at Auckland Zoo. This was a unique project which required materials and solutions that were out of the box such as ‘Tiger glass’. But the category judges said it was Garyth’s teamwork approach to leadership along with his strong communication and relationship management skills that set him apart. The $25 - 50 Million Project Award is for those who’ve led construction projects (completed during the period 1 January 2023 to 29 May 2024) between $25 - 50 Million – supported by CARTERS. Find out more about the different award categories today. Nominations close 29 May. #NZBuildingPeople24 https://lnkd.in/ge_R8J4B

Building a future free from melanoma in the construction industry is the driver of our new partnership with Melanoma New Zealand. Together we aim to help deliver lifesaving tools about sun safety and finding skin cancer early to help those working in the building industry stay healthy onsite and off. This partnership really hits the nail on the head for CARTERS with both customers and staff exposed to the sun for prolonged periods of time due to the nature of building and frequent outdoor work conditions. The joint objective is to provide education and raise awareness, promoting prevention and early detection of melanoma across CARTERS trade customer base, within their own team and industry associates. Mike Guy, CARTERS Building Supplies Chief Executive says “We’re excited to be supporting Melanoma New Zealand’s mission of championing melanoma prevention, early detection and treatment for all New Zealanders, especially since it’s so relevant to both our own team and our customers.” Men are more likely than women to die from melanoma. Annually, more than 6,000 people are diagnosed with melanoma in New Zealand – and more people die from skin cancer in New Zealand than die on our roads. But the good news is that melanoma can be preventable, and if caught and treated early enough, it is almost always curable. Prevent, check, protect is the key message to tradies. Undertaking regular self-skin checks and checks by a health professional are the most effective ways to detect melanoma early. Have concerns? Seek advice without delay. By helping deliver the message about the importance of melanoma prevention and early detection to tradies through in-branch spot checks, promotion at local and national events, and via educational content, CARTERS aim to have a positive impact on New Zealanders working within the building industry. On International Women's Day, CARTERS would like to celebrate the amazing work women do in the building industry across Aotearoa, New Zealand! Did you know - Tradeswomen make three times fewer ACC claims compared to their male counterparts, more than half of female trade apprentices are still engaged in an industry related to their training ten years later, and one in three women in the trades are business owners. So why aren't more women joining the trades? READ TRADE LEADER latest article - Women in trades: Where are we at in 2024? https://ow.ly/AsPU50QMcvx In this article, we have featured Waikato-based builder Jess Nielsen who made history late last year as the first woman to place in the 2023 Auckland Registered Master Builders Association CARTERS Apprentice of the Year competition. The Bachelor of Construction undergraduate and volunteer firefighter was working in Taumarunui when she came third in the national competition. In the event’s 20-year history, she is the first to reach the top three. We also saw female apprentices Kat Ricketts from Wellington and Gypsy Pattie from Waikato participate in Registered Master Builders Apprentice of the Year 2023 competition. Kat secured her place in the top 10 finalists for the Cook Strait region. CARTERS look forward to seeing who will take our the Apprentice of the Year title this year! #carterstradeleader #InternationalWomensDay #buildersofig #womeninconstruction #buildingnz #apprenticelife #nztradie
