Aqualung Carbon Capture is a pioneer in membrane-based carbon capture technology. Aqualung’s membrane technology will facilitate decarbonisation by offering a safe, absorbent-free and highly compact carbon capture system for industrial flue gas and biogas. Aqualung aims to lead the energy transition by deploying industrial-scale carbon capture units, offering a complete well-to-wake solution for industrial CO2-emitters. 

Job description and duties

The role will be development and deployment oriented, with additional field and office work. The responsibilities revolve around membrane product development and upscaling, as well as continuous improvement to existing portfolio and integrating products into processes. The tasks will include experimental lab work, product manufacturing, quality control with field testing, and management of research collaborations, and will be responsive and improvisational in nature. 

As a senior membrane expert at Aqualung, you will be joining an experienced and dynamic team of engineers and scientists with expertise across membrane science, industrial plant engineering, and product development. The current focus is on delivering modular, pilot-scale carbon capture units as a steppingstone towards full-scale industrial decarbonization. The patented membrane system is at the heart of the process. For our pilot projects, Aqualung has developed various in-house coating technologies to produce industrial-scale membrane modules. We share our production facilities with NTNU in Trondheim, which houses advanced membrane production and testing infrastructure, and collaborate with varied international industrial companies to expedite product rollout. 

Travelling (domestic/international) to carry out field testing and other duties can be expected. The engineer must adhere to and improve HSE regulations and implement 5S quality standards in production.

Location: Aqualung R&D centre, Oslo (Norway) or Aqualung Inc, US

Qualifications and requirements

·        Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical/mechanical/industrial/production engineering or natural sciences (chemistry/physics).

·        Documented hands-on experience working in environments for membrane development and upscaling.

·        Industry experience in the field of membranes is preferred.

·        Experience in automatization of production processes is an advantage.

·        Experience in quality control of production processes is an advantage.

·        Must be able to devise and execute methodological approach to day-to-day tasks, structured reporting protocols, and stringent quality control.

·        The work environment is highly fluid and will demand adaptability to changing circumstances and a degree of comfort with uncertainty.

·        Should be able to contribute to and work closely with R&D team with production knowledge and know-how.

·        Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Norwegian language proficiency is an advantage.
