How can you ensure customers understand the value of your design?
Don't be afraid to pivot! Sometimes after extensive market research and prototyping, the customer still doesn't "want" a design. At this stage of the design process, don't give up. Pivot instead of starting from scratch. The pivot could be tweaking the actual design itself or marketing the product using a different perspective. In the end, a good design can only take a product so far, marketing is what really creates the customers' "want".

What are the best ways to improve your skills as a process designer?
It is really valuable for a process design engineer to spend time working in operations and physically experiencing how equipment works and what the plant operators and maintenance crew struggle with. This will give the process design engineer insights into what can and should be incorporated into the design to overcome these challenges.
