EU ETS has been in force in the maritime sector since January this year. Why then is there no table available with emission factors for ETS? To calculate the emission factor, the emission conversion factors of CO2, CH4, and N2O are used. The emission factors for these greenhousegases are not explicitly mentioned in the Annex of the MRV or ETS Regulation: According to the directive, we should use the default IPCC emission factors (from the 2006 IPCC Inventory Guidelines or later updates) unless more accurate fuel-specific factors, identified by independent accredited laboratories using accepted analytical methods, are available. But the regulation doesn’t provide clear guidance. Does anyone have experience with applying IPCC emission factors or specific knowledge on aligning these factors with EU ETS regulations? Were can we find these values? We would love to hear the feedback in the comments!
