Sitting at a pool is fun. Understanding FuelEU pooling mechanism is hard. Use the FuelEU Pool Tool to make it easier! With the FuelEU Pool Tool, you can compare cost impact of FuelEU, EU ETS and the fuel itself while pooling up to ten (10) ships. You are able to choose between all listed fuels of FuelEU Maritime, blend different quantities of fuel, pool together a FuelEU balance surplus if you have it and determine your most effective cost-strategy for compliance until 2050. You can even change fuel properties to reflect your own fuel blends, especially useful if you have specific biofuel blends that are not listed in the regulation. Sustainable Ships members and paid users have access to the native Excel file and can: -> Input fuel parameters, save scenarios, customize input parameters, and analyse pooling strategies to minimize costs. -> Have the option to add as many vessels as they like and save any scenario, offline, anywhere. -> Readily adjust fuel prices, fuel types, and blend fuels to optimize costs. -> Calculate penalties, fuel costs, and total sums for each ship individually. -> Verify the accuracy of calculations for penalties, fuel and ETS costs. In other words, you take control of your own analyses! The Excel is sold at a discount until the end of August! Try it out today. #FuelEU #Maritime #SustainableShips #Tools

Sustainable Ships and CarbonLeap: A Strategic Partnership for Maritime Decarbonization CarbonLeap and Sustainable Ships are pleased to announce a new partnership aimed at enhancing decarbonization in the maritime industry. This collaboration combines our respective expertise to offer comprehensive solutions for maritime sustainability and carbon reduction. About Sustainable Ships Sustainable Ships provides easy to use tools on maritime sustainability. These tools help shipowners and suppliers answer the important questions: what do you need to do to comply with decarbonization regulation, what can you do to decarbonize, and what do you need to pay? About CarbonLeap At CarbonLeap, we help companies translate their Scope 1 and 3 reduction ambitions into actionable strategies, specifically in the transportation sector. We ensure that the impact of these strategies is independently verified and allocated via the CarbonBank, providing our clients with confidence in their sustainability efforts. Additionally, leveraging our experience in environmental commodity trading and our network of FuelEU surplus partners, CarbonLeap can help shipping companies avoid high costs and comply with the FuelEU Maritime regulation. This partnership leverages the strengths of both organizations. Sustainable Ships guides maritime companies through the initial stages of sustainability, identifying appropriate technologies, improving energy efficiency, and adopting greener practices. CarbonLeap then builds on this foundation, helping companies turn these initiatives into concrete, measurable actions that ensure long-term CO2 reduction across the transport sector, and ensure compliance with the FuelEU maritime regulation. This partnership aims to address challenges by providing a comprehensive approach to maritime sustainability. #MaritimeSustainability #CarbonReduction #SupplyChainEfficiency

EU ETS has been in force in the maritime sector since January this year. Why then is there no table available with emission factors for ETS? To calculate the emission factor, the emission conversion factors of CO2, CH4, and N2O are used. The emission factors for these greenhousegases are not explicitly mentioned in the Annex of the MRV or ETS Regulation: According to the directive, we should use the default IPCC emission factors (from the 2006 IPCC Inventory Guidelines or later updates) unless more accurate fuel-specific factors, identified by independent accredited laboratories using accepted analytical methods, are available. But the regulation doesn’t provide clear guidance. Does anyone have experience with applying IPCC emission factors or specific knowledge on aligning these factors with EU ETS regulations? Were can we find these values? We would love to hear the feedback in the comments!

How do we deal with the challenges surrounding shore power? Why is standardization so important? What will we achieve with collaboration? And how can we get more women in the maritime industry? These are a couple of items we learned about from and discussed with Fanni Arvai, Innovation & Sustainabilty Manager at International Car Operators, during our last Lunch & Learn.
