With summer and the holiday season drawing to a close, now is a great time to regroup and focus on our health and wellbeing. At Scheldebouw, we’re committed to doing all we can to help colleagues feel healthy, vital and able to enjoy life to the maximum. As part of this, throughout August we’ve been working with FitzCompany to offer all our team a free, confidential vitality check. Colleagues complete an online questionnaire covering topics such as exercise, work pressure and nutrition. Based on this, they receive a personalised report providing information and tips on increasing vitality and reducing risks. There is also an opportunity to discuss the findings with a vitality coach, who has been on hand in our office to provide face-to-face advice. Research has shown the importance of creating a happy, healthy workplace – and our experience at Scheldebouw has reinforced this. If you’d like more information about how you could do something similar in your organisation, please DM our HR Manager, Evalien van Loon. #vitality #health #wellbeing #OurPeople

Fifteen years on from its completion, One Hyde Park in Knightsbridge, London is generally considered the most exclusive apartment building in the world – and we’re proud to have played a part in its creation. The development, which includes luxury retail units, apartments and penthouses, was designed by RSHP. Four buildings in a Modernist style, unsurpassed for their architectural finish, are connected by fully-glazed cores. In total, we supplied 29,000 sqm of façade elements, including 15,000 sqm of unitised, naturally ventilated cladding panels and 72 of the world’s largest triple-glazed sliding doors. To develop a process for the hand-patination of 9,500 sqm of solid copper fins and sheets, our team worked closely with a local artist. The privacy fins were installed using a specially designed lifting device with remote control. #residential #luxury #London #facades

We are delighted to welcome Jürgen van Erk back to the Scheldebouw team as our new Lead Concept Design. Jürgen began his career at Scheldebouw back in 2010, when he joined us as a Design Engineer fresh from school. After his initial period at Scheldebouw, he co-established a business unit for another façade contractor, where he gained experience across roles in the international façade industry, with a project portfolio of landmark projects. As our new Lead Concept Design, Jürgen will play a crucial part in translating our clients' technical and commercial requirements into design concepts. This will involve drawing up strategies encompassing purchasing, concept design, production, logistics and installation. Jürgen comments: “I’m delighted to be returning to Scheldebouw – I know at first hand what a great place it is to work! I’m very excited for my new role and the potential it offers to contribute to creative, innovative solutions for the organisation.” Great to have you on board, Jürgen! #ConceptDesign #facades #OurPeople

Work is well underway on the Bankside Yards project in London, where we are helping to transform and renew a lost area of the capital on the south bank of the River Thames. Bankside Yards is set to be the first fossil fuel free mixed-use development in the UK. The project will bring new life to a large, underused area between Blackfriars Bridge and the Tate Modern, creating a vibrant new destination and a gateway to the London Borough of Southwark. In total, eight new buildings will sit over 14 grand arches. Scheldebouw realised the first building in the masterplan in 2023 – a 19-storey office building featuring Permasteelisa Group’s unique closed cavity façade (CCF) technology. We are now producing the bespoke unitised façade panels for the 50-storey Opus building, which is set to be the first residential building to open at Bankside Yards. It’s great to see our work shaping the city’s skyline and creating new, exciting spaces for Londoners to live and work. With thanks to our partners on this project: Native Land, Gardiner & Theobald LLP, Core5, PLP Architecture, Adamson Associates Architects, Thornton Tomasetti, AKT II, Multiplex. #London #redevelopment #renewal #facades

We are delighted to share the news that we have successfully published our fourth EPD in London – for the custom-designed unitised façade system at 2 Aldermanbury Square. EPD verification involves an independent, standardised analysis of the complete lifecycle of a product to show its impact on the environment and human health. This is the first time that achieving the EPD has been integral to project strategy from the outset. We drew up a preliminary embodied carbon assessment early in the pre-construction services agreement stage and used this to steer the design and ensure it met sustainability targets. We then conducted a more detailed analysis during the design stage, before submitting the project-specific EPD for review and approval. As a service this is enabling us to make better design decisions, for example, applying a particular type of aluminium for the extrusion at Aldermanbury Square. It is also a much more streamlined process than in the past, when we collected EPDs from individual suppliers and shared them with the main contractor and client’s consultant so they could make a calculation for the whole building. You can view the full EPD for 2 Aldermanbury Square here: https://lnkd.in/dNEzwr_G We’re proud to have achieved this latest milestone in our industry’s journey towards increased sustainability. If you would like to know more about our EPD service, please get in touch with our Sustainability Leader, Janneke Verkerk-Evers. With thanks to our partners on this project: Main contractor: Lendlease Developer: Great Portland Estates #sustainability #EPD #EmbodiedCarbon #facades

A snapshot behind the scenes at our Middelburg production facility in the Netherlands, where we manufacture some of the most beautiful, sustainable façades in the world. For every project that passes through the facility, precision and attention to detail are key. Over an area of 27,500 sqm, we run five production lines that are set up on a project basis. All are equipped for advanced machining and assembly, including the use of CNC data. One line maintains ‘clean-room’ standards at all times, essential for closed cavity façade (CCF) production. For testing and prototyping, the facility includes a dedicated visual mock-up area and fully-certified performance testing provision. Visual mock-ups are created at 1:1 scale to evaluate appearance and validate designs. Prototypes are made to test fit-up and verify concepts, while performance mock-ups are used to prove compliance to relevant standards and specifications. If you’re in the area, come and pay us a visit! #manufacturing #production #facades

Over the past six months, the Scheldebouw team in Middelburg has had the pleasure of working with 14 high school students from Goes Klein Frankrijk College on the creation of a new canteen for our production facility. We gave the students the brief to design a new eating area for our production colleagues, featuring wood and plants to create an environmentally-friendly feel with the atmosphere of a living room. The group visited the space and developed two design drawings to present to us, which were then combined into a final design. Each student was given a specific role: estimating, purchasing, removal of the existing canteen, assembling parts… With the help of skilled Scheldebouw supervisors, they got stuck into every aspect of the build, from drawing and planning to sawing and installing. The final result is a beautiful canteen in which our production team can relax and socialise. Huge thanks to the students and our colleagues who supported them. #WorkExperience #design #engineering #community

It is 10 years since the opening of The News Building in London – a landmark project for our team at Scheldebouw. Designed by architectural studio RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop The News Building is part of the London Bridge Quarter and a sister building to The Shard. The 17-storey tower includes around 40,000 sqm of office space and is the international headquarters for News UK. Scheldebouw provided a total of 20,100 sqm of glazed façade units on a steel main frame. The double-skin façade offers high levels of acoustic and thermal insulation, along with plenty of natural light and outstanding views throughout. These are enhanced by landscaped roof terraces and naturally ventilated winter gardens on different floors. Featuring photovoltaic panels and a combined heating and power plant, The News Building led the way in environmental sustainability and was awarded BREEAM Excellent in 2015. Read the full project story here: https://lnkd.in/eAQZUe43 Still recognised today as a groundbreaking office building, we are proud to have played a part in its creation. #London #architecture #anniversary #facades
