I had the opportunity to spend the last two days at Investing in Green Hydrogen 2024 in London alongside my colleagues Jonathan Carpenter and Peter Daemen. It was fantastic to speak with many people active in our sector and to be part of a lively panel discussion on financing the hydrogen revolution. Also we were honoured to receive the Impact Green Hydrogen Project of the Year.   “Gearing up” is how I would describe the overall sentiment at the conference. There is real confidence in the market – just look at the number of FIDs taken over the summer. Supply chains are ramping up, and project developers are getting better at picking out the business cases that make the most sense. That’s not to say that developing the hydrogen sector is simple or straightforward. These are incredibly complex projects that require collaboration and commitment by many. And, like every capital intensive sector, they require a stable and predictable regulatory environment. Two things I would like to see the industry double down on in the coming months and years are (1) safety and (2) cost leadership. These projects and assets will require constant vigilance to ensure no harm. At the same time, while everyone wants to find the "green premium" in the market today, the industry will only really scale up at pace when it offers the lowest-cost way to decarbonize heavy industry, aviation, and shipping - which will require a near-religious devotion to driving cost out every single day.

Kohtumisel kinnitasime, et uus puhas tööstus on Eestisse oodatud ning töötame selle nimel, et tehas saaks 2028. aastal siin tööd alustada! 🤝

What is going on in this market? 🤔🧐 Reflecting on the headlines in the new energies and green molecules sector this summer, many are left wondering - what is really going on? Several high-profile hydrogen and biofuels projects have recently faced cancellation or delays, with market conditions cited as the primary cause. However, the market fundamentals remain unchanged. In fact, just last month, Europe saw final investment decisions on close to 500 MW of green hydrogen projects. And just this week, Linde announced a long-term agreement for the supply of clean hydrogen to Dow Path2Zero Project in Canada, while Adani Group launched a green hydrogen project in India. ‘So while there are people pulling back, there are people that have managed to make this work’, said Greig Boulstridge a research analyst at Wood Mackenzie in the Financial Times. The fundamentals that underpin successful green molecule investment are still intact. Equally important are the core principles of sound capital management and project execution in the energy sector. Whilst external factors certainly influence outcomes, the success of any ambitious project largely depends on elements within our control - strategic alignment, resilient business models, robust project management and strong partnerships. Success comes down to getting the right project, in the right place, at the right time - and then delivering with excellence. Power2X is a developer and investor in large-scale new energy assets and infrastructure focusing on decarbonizing industrial value chains and heavy transport in collaboration with industrial companies around the world. The company is focused on clean hydrogen and derivatives including ammonia, methanol and SAF, with a diverse portfolio of projects that are initially prioritising European demand. For select projects, Power2X can also act as an advisor, supporting third parties to develop project.
