Our partner SELCO Foundation is delivering renewable energy to vulnerable communities in India, helping them to build sustainable livelihoods 💡 Energy is crucial for development, but it’s also the biggest contributor to #ClimateChange. That’s why we’re proud to work with SELCO Foundation to increase access to renewable energy across India through our #EnergyForHealth programme 🧑🤝🧑 “Distributed renewable energy is the best way to provide reliable energy for healthcare facilities,” says Rachita Misra, Associate Director of SELCO Foundation. Is it still possible to change the future of our planet? 🌍 This is the question we asked in our 2023 Annual Review, the year that marked the halfway point to the deadline for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement commitments. No organisation can tackle the complex root causes of climate change and poverty on its own. Thanks to the work of our partners, we’re optimistic that together, we can change the story of our planet for good! 🧑🤝🧑 Read our full publication of the 2023 Annual Review to discover our partners’ stories and visit our website to read more about our ongoing work together 👇 https://lnkd.in/dFG8vzEQ #IKEAFoundationHighlights2023 #PeopleAndPlanet

HEJ! 👋 We’re the Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat. Take a look at our #IKEAFoundationHighlights2023 below. In 2022, the world saw the biggest-ever jump in the number of forcibly displaced people. It’s due to this global issue that our work is focused on translating evidence into action to find durable solutions for displacement-affected communities across East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes region of Africa 🌍 We had the opportunity to facilitate a panel at the IKEA Foundation’s Refugee Livelihoods Partners Convening to discuss the latest evidence on effective livelihoods programming in displacement settings 🧑🤝🧑 Through this, we identified a need for greater interaction between researchers and practitioners. One of our priorities is to give more of a platform to local research institutions in regions with displaced populations, as they’re better placed not only to support local policymakers but to also hold them accountable. Sea level rise is an existential threat to Island States, and a warning we can’t ignore. At the IKEA Foundation, we actively promote efforts to limit #GlobalWarming, which is a key driver of #SeaLevelRise 🌊 We’re proud that our partner, Climate Analytics, provides expert support to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Climate Action Team to enhance evidence availability and awareness of the challenges posed by a warming planet 🌍 “The more we delay phasing out fossil fuels, the more sea level rise we’re locking ourselves into, and the earlier damages will occur. Taking action to limit warming to 1.5°C will slow sea level rise significantly,” says report reviewer and Climate Analytics CEO, Bill Hare. “We all have a common view that people need a healthy and sustainable way of living. It’s all about putting people at the heart of everything that we do,” says our CEO, Jessica Anderen. Earlier this year, Jessica engaged with forcibly displaced people and other community members in Nairobi that are supported under the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) Re:BUiLD programme 🌍 The Re:BUiLD programme provides business support to refugees and vulnerable Kenyans to start or grow micro-enterprises and build sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families. Millions of people globally are in need of humanitarian aid - but many of these crises are not widely reported on. On World Humanitarian Day, we’re recognising our partners who respond to emergencies around the world, including those that may have been largely overlooked. 🌍 Since 2018, we have granted over €49 million to Start Network and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to respond quickly where the needs are greatest. HEJ! We’re the International Rescue Committee 👋 Here’s our 2023 highlights from working with the IKEA Foundation. We were proud to co-organise the Refugee Livelihoods Partners Convening in 2023, bringing together all IKEA Foundation partners working to enable refugee self-reliance 🌍 Through initiatives like this, we aim to give people affected by displacement a voice at the table when we design, implement and evaluate interventions aimed at serving their communities 🧑🤝🧑 In addition to this, the IRC’s Re:BUiLD programme (supported by the IKEA Foundation) generates evidence on what works best to achieve sustainable livelihoods for urban refugees and vulnerable community members.
