After a rigorous theory round and a challenging practical skills test, the top 10 finalists for this prestigious award have been revealed. We’re incredibly proud to announce that our Chef de Rang, Jasper Jongejans from Ciel Bleu Restaurant, has made it to the finals! His expertise, dedication, and passion for hospitality have earned him this well-deserved spot. The Hennessy Hospitality Award 2024 winner will be announced on November 4, 2024, during the launch of the Lekker500 2025 edition in the Netherlands. We had the honour of visiting Fire Station "DIRK," the assigned station for Hotel Okura Amsterdam, to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Fire Station Dirk, located on Honthorststraat, is the oldest still-operating barracks in Europe. Built in 1870 in the style of the Rijksmuseum, this monumental building, designed by city architect Hendrik Leguyt, has a rich history and has been beautifully restored. To mark this incredible milestone, our team brought specially crafted cakes from our pastry team to congratulate the firefighters on their remarkable history and service. Congratulations to the team at Fire Station Dirk on 150 years of dedicated service!

PLATINUM status marks 10 consecutive years of Green Globe certification and acknowledges the continuous sustainable management and operations of the hotel. Green Globe recently recertified Hotel Okura Amsterdam for the eleventh year. General Manager, Michiel Roelfsema said, “As a Platinum Member, Hotel Okura Amsterdam is at the forefront of sustainable practices. This is a path we have been on for years; the key is to join all efforts together. Include your team and your guests and collaborate with suppliers, partners and the municipality. And realize, many small improvements combined can result in a great impact.” Over the past ten years, Hotel Okura Amsterdam has been steadily refining and improving its sustainability strategies. The hotel uses a combination of measures to generate power from the installation of solar panels and motion sensors to utilization of heat/cold storage and contracts for energy supplied from natural resources. Our chef, Victor Guitton, from Ciel Bleu Restaurant, is in the prestigious S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition 2024/2025 for the title of Best Young Chef! On November 4, 2024, Victor will showcase his skills in the regional finals in the Netherlands, facing off against young chefs from Northern Europe at the Miele Experience Centre. This prestigious competition aims to discover and support the next generation of culinary talent. We are proud of Victor and wish him the best as he competes for a spot in the global finals in 2025!

We're thrilled to announce that arjan speelman, executive chef of Ciel Bleu Restaurant, will be part of the prestigious jury for the Bocuse d'Or Netherlands finals of Bocuse d'Or, on September 23, 2024, at 'Gastvrij Rotterdam. Joining a panel of top culinary experts, Arjan will be part of selecting the chef who will represent the Netherlands in the European finals in 2026. Best of luck to all the participants!
