Did you know that the port of Amsterdam is the biggest cacao port of Europe? And have you heard of Chocolatemakers BV whose mission is not to be the "biggest", but the one with the biggest impact per bar in the chocolate industry? ☀ Learnings from a company that prioritises impact over profit. From the transportation via sail ship and bike, to a roof that serves as one big solar panel creating about 98% of the needed energy, here are our insights from our visit at Chocolate Makers in Amsterdam. Each year, they await the arrival of the sail ship to deliver the awaited beans for the production. Not only do the bars fund regeneration projects in Brazil, the bars are also transported by bike from Amsterdam to spread to Germany. From the moment we stepped through the doors of the facility, we were greeted with passion and enthusiasm for the art of chocolate making. 👀 Were you aware that Chocolate Makers stands as one of the world's few chocolate producers crafting chocolate from scratch, beginning with raw cocoa beans? This is a testament to their role as pioneers in the bean-to-bar movement. They are committed to sourcing cocoa beans directly from farmers who adhere to fair trade practices, ensuring fair wages and working conditions. 🍫 The highlight of the visit? The decadent chocolate tasting! Indulging in the rich flavors and unique blends that Chocolate Makers has to offer was an absolute treat for the senses. Because of the common deforestation practice of the rainforest to make space for more coffee beans. Enerzijds is het doel om tot en met 2030 900.000 woningen te bouwen, inclusief de bijbehorende voorzieningen. Anderzijds willen we de impact verminderen en binnen de 'planetaire grenzen' bouwen. "I feel like I am the only fool who cares." and "where is the BlueCity (010) of Amsterdam?" were two of the many sentences that fell during our workshop last week on what excites, frustrates or would empower our community to co-create a circular Amsterdam. Thank you everyone for joining, sharing what excites you, frustrates you and what would empower you! We were very grateful to deep-dive alongside you on how the transition to a local circular economy can be achieved in co-creation. What were our take-aways? 👉 a missing culture of recognition or acknowledgment 👉 a needed sense of belonging for solo- and intrapreneuers 👉 offering a space for creation, a need for a Circular Clubhouse 👉 a joined workspace for solopreneuers of the Circular Economy 👉 a missing art involvement in the Circular Economy to make the transition fun What would you say is missing? ✋"Three times more discussions around the Circular Economy, yet no movement towards a more circular tomorrow." A very brief summary of the launch of the Circular Economy Gap Report 2024 by Circle Economy Foundation and Deloitte. Matthew Fraser emphasized that the world consumed in the last 5 years as many resources as we consumed in the entire 20th century alone. A hard statistical truth about our relationship to the materials we consume. And despite the gained attention, there is no measurable added action on the ground. So the report is for the the changemakers, the rebells and the pioneers with one clear intention: It's time to act. Beyond perfectionism, turning theory into action. To change the system successfully, three key actions were identified: 👉 leveling the policy playing field to incentives circular practices whilst penalizing harmful ones 👉 Adjusting fiscal policy to create true prices (such as landfill taxes, mentioned by Andrea Liverani from the The World Bank) 👉 Building circular expertise and skills across sectors How I would see it: The world is still only 7,2% circular. But in other words 92,8% of potential to be gained. So let's get started!
