Perihal kami

WWF-Malaysia is a national conservation trust affiliated to the WWF global network. Working to promote harmony between human beings and nature for four decades, the organisation to date runs more than 90 projects covering a diverse range of environmental protection and nature conservation work in Malaysia. WWF-Malaysia has come a long way since its coming into being on the 13th of January 1972. In the early days we had solely focused on wildlife conservation such as saving endangered species like the tigers and turtles, today our work has extended to encompass marine and forest conservation as well; from to protecting our highlands and forests, and also our rivers and seas. We now also undertake scientific field research, public awareness campaigns, business and industry engagement, environmental education as well as policy advocacy. WWF-Malaysia works hand in hand with local communities to improve their livelihoods while enabling their participation in conservation as well as training and supporting other environmental protection organisations in Malaysia. We are privileged to have more than 70,000 supporters who interact with us on Facebook; about 52,000 individual supporters who fund 34 critical projects; and even more financial backing from the corporations. With your continued support, we stand the best chance of saving our biodiversity as well as achieving sustainable management of our natural resources, to safeguard our good quality of life, and that of our children and future generations. WWF thanks you for your valuable support.

The recent floods in Sabah, Malaysia, are the worst in 20 years. These extreme weather events are a stark reminder of the escalating climate crisis and its devastating impact on communities. It's imperative that we invest in integrated planning approaches that promote sustainable development and mitigate the risks associated with climate change. Our thoughts are with the people of Sabah as they recover from this crisis.

We are thrilled to announce that we had the pleasure of hosting the ‘Green Infrastructure for Roads and Highways’ workshops in Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia. Many thanks to the representatives from government agencies, road planners, engineers, and Environmental Impact Assessment consultants for making this two-day workshop possible. On our final day, we had the pleasure of taking part in a site visit to Rawang Bypass where we shed light on the need for biodiversity audits in road and highway planning in Malaysia. This collaborative effort with Aurecon Lestari aims to highlight our Green Roads and Highways training module to promote the construction of greener roads and highways in Malaysia. For more information on the training module please reach out to my.policyref@wwf.org.my #TogetherPossible #wwfmy

🌿✨ We're thrilled to share that WWF-Malaysia has received RM1 million from The Melium Group's 35th Anniversary Charity Auction, organised by The Melium Group in partnership with BURDALUXURY Kuala Lumpur! 🎉🐾 Held at the elegant St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, the cheque was graciously presented by Dato' Seri Dr. Farah Khan, Founder and President of The Melium Group, and Ms. Shanthi Kandiah, one of WWF-Malaysia's Trustee and auction event committee member, to Mr. Thiaga Nadeson, Director of Fundraising, WWF-Malaysia. 🌿🐘 Breaking News: Bornean Elephants Officially Recognised as a Subspecies of the Asian Elephant by IUCN! 🐘🌿 Sabah is the proud home of the largest population of the newly recognised Bornean elephant (Elephas maximus borneensis). These incredible creatures are not just any elephants; they are a unique subspecies of the Asian elephant and an Evolutionarily Significant Unit, distinct from their mainland relatives. The subspecies is now officially classified as ‘Endangered’ by the IUCN Red List due to its small and declining population which poses a very high risk of extinction in the wild. 🗣️ Dr. Cheryl Cheah, our elephant expert at WWF-Malaysia, states: "As an Evolutionarily Significant Unit, Bornean elephants are morphologically and genetically distinct from mainland Asian elephants, rendering them unique to the island of Borneo and part of our natural heritage. Their classification as 'Endangered' underscores the urgency of collaborative conservation actions such as the management of human-elephant conflict and the prevention of further habitat loss and fragmentation - both of which are crucial for safeguarding their future survival." 🌿🌟 Uniquely Different: Genetic studies reveal that Bornean elephants hail from an ancient lineage with a long history of isolation. These majestic beings, likely originating from a small female population, stand out with their relatively small size, larger ears, longer tails, and round bodies. 🔬📚 Fascinating Findings: Recent research shows that Bornean elephant skulls possess unique features like a shallower forehead and narrower nasal opening, making them distinct from their Sumatran and mainland Asian cousins. 🚨 The urgency is real. Join us in our mission to protect these magnificent creatures and preserve our natural heritage through dedicated conservation efforts and a holistic living landscapes approach. Your support is crucial for their future! Help protect our Bornean elephants, visit wwf.org.my/elephant Read more here: 1. Press release by IUCN - https://lnkd.in/ghwH-pF3 2.
