  • #SundaySeries: Circular Economy in Events, Retail & Ephemeral Architecture - Baltic Perspective This week, we're exploring circular economy practices for events, retail spaces, and ephemeral architecture, inspired by CircularMaking.com's 2023 white paper. Let's consider how these principles can apply in the Baltic context. 🔄 Key Takeaways: 1. Use reusable & recyclable materials in event design and ephemeral architecture 2. Implement comprehensive waste management strategies 3. Adopt circular design principles in retail spaces 4. Explore circular business models like rental, resale, and take-back programs 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹 The Baltic states are working towards circular economy goals. While specific large-scale initiatives in events and retail are still developing, there's growing awareness and action: - Estonia's circular economy roadmap aims to increase resource efficiency - Latvia is focusing on improving waste management and recycling rates - Lithuania is promoting eco-design and extended producer responsibility 💡 Opportunities for Baltic Businesses: - Partner with local recycling facilities to enhance material recovery - Design modular event structures and retail spaces for easy disassembly and reuse - Implement take-back programs in retail stores - Collaborate with Baltic universities on circular economy innovation Challenges remain, including mindset shifts, infrastructure development, and initial financial investments. However, the potential for cost savings, new business models, and enhanced brand reputation make circular practices a compelling opportunity for Baltic businesses. Let's embrace circularity and build a more sustainable future for events, retail, and ephemeral architecture in the Baltics! #CircularEconomy #SustainableEvents #ItsTime #BalticSustainabilityAwars

  • #SundaySeries: Dive deep and Invitation to your company - New European Bauhaus Economy This week, we're exploring the "New European Bauhaus Economy" paper, which offers a transformative vision for our built environment. Here are key takeaways and opportunities for organizations across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania: 1. Urgent systemic change: Our current path is unsustainable. It's time to reimagine how we build, live, and work in our cities and regions. 2. Value shift: As material resources become constrained, focus on creating value through services, care, and collective intelligence. This opens new business models and innovation opportunities. 3. Circular imperative: With global circularity at just 7.2%, there's immense potential in circular construction and resource management. Companies can lead this transition and gain a competitive edge. 4. Nature-based solutions: Integrating green infrastructure into urban spaces offers multiple benefits - from temperature regulation to flood management. Developers and city planners, take note! 5. Innovative finance: Financial institutions can develop new instruments that account for ecological services and collective health benefits, unlocking funding for sustainable projects. 6. Sharing economy: Urban planners and developers can explore community-centered designs that optimize resource use, creating more resilient and connected neighborhoods. 7. Skills transformation: Educational institutions and businesses must collaborate to prepare the workforce for emerging roles in bio-design, circular economy, and regenerative practices. This paper offers a roadmap for innovation across sectors. How can your organization adapt these ideas to lead the way in creating a regenerative built environment? Let's discuss in the comments! #CircularEconomy #RegenerativeDesign #UrbanPlanning

  • As we log off for the weekend, here's a byte of food for thought from our CEO Kristaps Cirulis: "A Low-Impact Internet: Something We're All Ignoring!" Imagine if your Instagram story had a carbon footprint. A twist: it does. While you're out hugging trees this weekend, consider this: your digital life might be secretly moonlighting as a carbon emissions factory. Intrigued? Horrified? Both? Monday, let's not just change our Zoom backgrounds, but our approach to digital sustainability. Curious minds can get a ticket to our main November 27 event - where we'll dive deep on a practical level. We promise no greenwashing, and more green-coding. Because let's face it, Mother Nature doesn't have a 'delete browser history' option. Or if she does, we might be the ones getting deleted soon. #DigitalDetox #ItsTime #BalticSustainabilityAwards

A Low-Impact Internet: Something We're All Ignoring! Hard truth to share with you: while we’re busy patting ourselves on the back for digital innovation, our online habits are quietly spewing out carbon dioxide like there’s no tomorrow. Consider this—your typical online ad campaign emits 5.4 tonnes of CO2, almost half of a one citizen's average annual carbon footprint. Yes, that’s the price for all those clicks and views. AI is incredible, but it’s also a major player in driving up our carbon emissions. With the IT industry set to consume 20% of the world’s electricity by 2025 and with AI it could even 5x or 10x, it’s clear we need to rethink our digital strategies—fast. This means that all businesses will need to act – whether they have e-commerce sites, streaming services, or advertising campaigns. Think of more streamlined content, and an option to turn off energy-draining elements. Volkswagen is already setting the bar with its Carbon-neutral Net platform a while ago for its electric SUV launch, cutting website emissions by 99% by stripping it down to basics. If they can do it, so can we. The key lesson? You need to account for everything and find balance. We as Baltic Sustainability Awards as well are at the beginning of this journey ourselves, embracing the mission to improve step by step. It’s time we stop treating our digital spaces like they’re exempt from environmental scrutiny. Let’s decarbonize our online presence with the same urgency we apply to physical waste. Future-forward brands will offer greener options, turning sustainability into a default, not an afterthought. As we continue to innovate with AI, blockchain, and digital services, we need to start thinking critically about the environmental impact. The future is digital, but it doesn't have to be dirty. Let's get serious about cleaning up our digital footprint before it's too late. That's why Baltic Sustainability Awards & Forum 2024 is inviting you (Yes, you) to join us on November 27 and to apply for the awards to become part of the solution rather than a bystander. #Sustainability #AI #BalticSustainabilityAwards

  • The path to a sustainable future is paved with groundbreaking ideas and technologies, many of which are brought to life by startups pushing the boundaries of what's possible. But can these innovators alone carry the weight of our global sustainability goals? Kristaps Cirulis, Agate S. Freimane and Kaisa Hansen discussed the question of - are startups solely responsible for success or do we require increased investments in this space? This was a part of a discussion during TechChill 2024, you can watch the whole panel here : https://lnkd.in/dAV5J227
