🖼️ Vessels of Vitality | Ayush Sunar | Acrylic | Nepal This artwork was created by a talented young artist as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations to showcase 4 decades of research for development excellence and shed light on the critical issue of water security and its significance in shaping our collective future. “Vessels of Vitality” conveys a carrier of life, energy, and strength, emphasizing the role women have in sustaining life. This painting depicts the nurturing spirit of Nepalese women who cultivate and care for the land. The term ‘vessel’ refers to both the water pot and the woman, a true vessel of vitality. Sunar, a visual artist from Nepal, is currently pursuing a bachelor’s in fine art from Lalitkala Campus in Kathmandu. He tries to infuse his senses by observing and capturing things through drawing. He questions the artistic process by asking “Is what I've been creating a blend of fragmented memories, aesthetic fusion, and the outpouring of emotions through countless visions and imagination?” #PaintingWaterFutures #OneCGIAR #40YearsOfIWMI

Echoing streams | Digital Art | Shaili Malla | Nepal This artwork was created by a talented young artist as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations to showcase 4 decades of research for development excellence and shed light on the critical issue of water security and its significance in shaping our collective future. “Growing up in a village, I witnessed water challenges and potential solutions. Despite an abundance of water, villages suffer from inadequate resource management and environmental changes. Many young people leave for better opportunities in urban areas or abroad, leaving women and the elderly behind. This piece highlights the importance of innovative water management strategies in adapting to climate change, aiming to inspire local communities to adopt more sustainable lifestyles.” Malla is a mixed-media visual artist and illustrator based in Kathmandu, Nepal. With a degree in Fine Arts from Kathmandu University (KU)'s School of Arts, her artistic journey spans various mediums. She fuses digital art and animation with the timeless essence of traditional art practices. #PaintingWaterFutures #OneCGIAR #40YearsOfIWMI

🌍 Today is Earth Overshoot Day- a crucial reminder of our unsustainable consumption of ecological resources. ⚠️ If we were living in balance with nature, this day would fall on December 31. But it's only the beginning of August, and we've already exhausted the planet's supply. Every day after this, we are borrowing from our future to sustain our present-day needs. We should rethink and act for a sustainable future! #EarthOvershootDay

🌊 Living water | Acrylic and Ink | Sarvinoz Kosimovata | Uzbekistan This artwork was created by a talented young artist as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations to showcase 4 decades of research for development excellence and shed light on the critical issue of water security and its significance in shaping our collective future. This piece depicts the personification of the feminine element. Representing water in nature and the spiritual world, it portrays renewal, purity and fullness of life. This painting shows Anahita – Iranian mythological goddess of water and fertility – at the Aral Sea. Archaeological fragments depicting Anahita have been found around the region, though many were destroyed because of their radical teachings. Anahita is often seen as a young woman in a golden robe with a crown of eight rays and a hundred stars. She is called the "Golden Mother" and represents both sacred sexuality and purity. She is liberation. She is a warrior. She is a life-augmenting mother. Kosimova is a member of the Creative Association of Young Artists of Uzbekistan and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan in 2014, 2015 and 2018. She has participated in exhibitions in Uzbekistan and abroad. #PaintingWaterFutures #OneCGIAR #40YearsOfIWMI
