Responsibilities

  • Based in Seoul
  • Cover developments in the rapidly changing artificial intelligence sector, primarily in South Korea, but also, in coordination with staff journalists in other bureaus in the region
  • Write news and analysis on key legislative, regulatory and policy initiatives aimed at the AI sector, especially given how governments are scrambling to keep up with the speed of changes in AIWriting exclusive analysis on IP litigation in Japanese courts involving foreign companies; major policy disputes, and rules and regulations relating to IP
  • Write about developments in the corporate sector related to AI
  • In covering both the public and private sectors, the reporter should aim to develop the best sources available to enhance our news coverage, and to seek exclusive interviews with key players in the AI space
  • Responsible for covering major corporate developments involving IP issues, especially in sectors such as technology, pharmaceuticals, telecoms, consumer electronics, industrial machinery, entertainment and media, energy, and biotechnology

Requirements

  • The job will require the reporter to coordinate with staff journalists in Asia in order to ensure that our focus on AI takes into account developments in a variety of countries in the region
  • The reporter will also, from time to time, contribute to global stories on AI coordinated by key editors and reporters in North America and Europe.
  • Be able to conduct in-depth research and analysis on IP-related topics.
  • Possess excellent writing and reporting skills
  • Be capable of building and maintaining relationships with key industry stakeholders
  • Be proficient in Korea and English.
