𝙇𝙖𝙤𝙨 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙅𝙊𝘾𝙑　 Next year will be 60 years since five members of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) entered Laos in 1965. During this period, 1,074 members of JOCVs have been sent in Laos for various fields of activities. JICA also has long history of cooperation in Laos since 1960s, such as the construction of the Nam Ngum Hydropower Station, which is the first large-scale hydroelectric power generation project in Laos. Since 1990s, cooperation in the area of development of laws have been continued, and in 2020, the first Civil Code in Laos finally went into effect after JICA cooperated drafting it for more than 6 years. 📍【#Etiopia】👨🏽🌾𝙀𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙤𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙚𝟮 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙡-𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙚 𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙈𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨🌾 JICA’s EthioRice2 project is working on the dissemination of rice technology to assist in the expansion of rice production in Ethiopia. This is the next step following the completion of previous phase of the project which focused on the capacity development of rice researchers. A four-day Training of Trainers (July 16-19), on operation and maintenance of milling machines and examine the business model of rice milling service was organized at EIAR in Addis Ababa. 38 trainees comprised of researchers, experts from MoA, woreda experts, private rice millers and agricultural machinery distributors received technical training from a Japanese engineer from KANRYU Industry Co., ‐the company that supplied the milling machinery. The trainees appreciated the training and were eager to use the knowledge gained from this training to introduce rice milling and polishing services in their respective regions. #EthioRice2 #agriculture #RiceMillingMachine

💻𝗝𝗜𝗖𝗔 𝗗𝗫𝗟𝗮𝗯 𝗩𝗼𝗹.𝟭: 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀! JICA DX Lab, an experimental initiative with digital technology partners, is producing positive results. Their first project addressed the urgent issue of coexistence between humans and wild elephants in India🇮🇳. It used #AI -equipped cameras to quickly detect elephants approaching human habitats and established a system to avoid conflicts with humans. This resulted in no human deaths or injuries by elephants during the run of the project. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Jamaica. He made courtesy calls on Prime Minister H.E. Holness and other government officials and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on future cooperation under the Japan-Jamaica (J-J) Partnership to further promote cooperation. They also confirmed that the emergency relief supplies provided by Japan in July and the telecommunications and wireless network provided by Japan through grant aid were important support for the damage caused by Hurricane Beryl in July. In addition, we visited the coffee industry in Jamaica, which Japan once supported, to learn about the current situation and challenges surrounding the production of Blue Mountain coffee. #JICAJamaica

About 40 officials from 10 law enforcement bodies in Nigeria attended the 4-day seminar in the capital, Abuja. 𝙅𝙄𝘾𝘼 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙏𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙠𝙖 𝙈𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝘿𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘, 𝙈𝙚𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙉𝙞𝙠𝙠𝙚𝙞 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 From July 25 to 30, President Tanaka visited the Dominican Republic for the first time as President of JICA. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Dominican Republic and the 60th anniversary of the start of ODA to the Dominican Republic. The participants exchanged opinions and ideas for the sustainable development of the Nikkei community. Following the meeting, President Tanaka made a courtesy call on President Luis Abinader, who was reelected in June of this year. This year, the two leaders confirmed their deep and longstanding ties and Japan's contribution to the country's development, as well as their commitment to work together to further deepen this good relationship. #DominicanRepublic

🏝️JICA participated in The 10th Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (#PALM10) held in Tokyo from July 16 to July 18✨ During PALM10, JICA President Tanaka met with the leaders of Pacific Island countries (#PICs) and the PIF Secretary General to exchange views on possible future cooperation. At the Welcome Reception Hosted by Chief Cabinet Secretary Mr. Hayashi and Dr. Hayashi on July 16, JICA displayed panels on cooperation in the PICs. In addition, 10 former #JICAvolunteers who have dispatched to the PICs joined the reception and met with the leaders of these countries. JICA and #MoFA co-hosted a side event on July 17. President Tanaka mentioned in his opening remarks the special relationship established through people to people exchange between Japan and Pacific Island countries (PICs). This relationship is sometimes expressed in the word“Kizuna”by the leaders of each country. He stressed the importance of fostering relationships between Japan and PICs. His Excellency Dr. T. Suka Mangisi, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Tonga to Japan, Mr. Masao Suzuki, Toshiba Corporation, and Mr. Koji Kuroiwa, Japan Weather Association, made presentations about relationship established trough long-term project and their contribution. Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), Mr. Baron Waqa, an ex-participant of JICA’s training program, expressed his reflections and expectations for Japan's human resource development in the PICs. This event was closed with the Closing remarks by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Masahiro Komura. 𝙅𝙄𝘾𝘼 𝙙𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙧 𝙑𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙖 𝙎𝙝𝙤𝙝𝙚𝙞, 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙐𝙠𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙚 On July 22, JICA delegation, led by Senior Vice President Hara Shohei, visited the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. During the meeting with Dr. Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine, we discussed the current results and prospects for future cooperation in the healthcare sector, including trainings for healthcare workers in Japan and providing more medical equipment to Ukrainian hospitals. We also visited Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital, which was severely damaged during the Russian missile attack on July 8, and the Heart Institute, which has just received MRI from JICA. JICA will continue our efforts to rebuild healthcare in Ukraine. On July 24 Yulia Svyrydenko, the Minister of Economy of Ukraine and Senior Vice President of JICA Hara Shohei signed Record of Discussions for the Project for Enhancing Private Sector Engagement for the Reconstruction of Ukraine. The Agreement includes pilot projects with participation of 14 Japanese candidate companies, capacity building activities in private sector development etc.
