After a survey revealed that more viewers watch the Paralympics to see people "overcome their disabilities" rather than to witness elite athletes compete, Channel 4 responded with a powerful campaign. This video is a part of Channel 4’s powerful new campaign, which aims to shift the narrative and spotlight the athletes' incredible sporting achievements." Rather than showing the athletes “overcoming their disabilities”, the film depicts Paralympians taking on and overcoming forces such as gravity, friction and time – the impassionate elements and unchangeable forces of our world – that make no exception for any athlete, regardless of someone’s disability. This campaign stands out for several key reasons: * It reflects genuine community insights. * It promotes true inclusivity. * It embraces bold and creative ideas. * It addresses societal attitudes towards people with disabilities. Most importantly, it shifts the focus to the athletes themselves, not their disabilities. Athletes are exceptional, period. #DisabilityInclusion #WeAreBillionStrong #SDGs #AXSChat #BillionStrong

Only 1.9% of people with disabilities aged 20-29 were enrolled in higher education for the 2020-21 academic year. Complex factors like inaccessibility, financial challenges, and lack of awareness often stand in the way of these students experiencing college life. What can be done to increase student enrollment? We started by sensitizing the teachers! Creating new chapters on disability inclusion! We just wrapped up a 2-day Disability Awareness Program, led by our staff members, Roopa Reddy, George S. & Narendra VG, for 230 faculty members at Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati, Assam! From July 22nd to 23rd, the faculty explored new ways of making campuses inclusive of persons with disabilities, from the lessons conducted in class, to physical accessibility. Dhanya Ravi, a person with brittle bone disease, shared the story of her teacher’s decade-long dedication to teaching her at home as a volunteer. Members also heard from Giridhar, a person with vision disability who overcame barriers to graduate with a mechanical engineering degree, and Narendra, our colleague with multiple disabilities. The faculty then created impactful action plans for disability inclusion in the year ahead! #DisabilityAwareness #HigherEducation #InclusiveEducation #Empowerment #AccessibilityForAll #EducationForAll #CreatingChange #PersonsWithDisability

“My parents said, ‘Why do you want to work and be independent? Are you not getting what you need right now?’ It took a lot of convincing for them to agree. I’m a person with Osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) and I use a wheelchair to move around. As parents, they’re right, but as a child who wanted to grow and be independent, I was also right. I started with a data entry job and after a few months, I shifted to freelance content writing and a call centre job. But I really wanted a sustainable income and around that time, Shanti Raghavan messaged me about an opening in EnAble India. My mom was against it. She said: You have the privilege of working from home, and now you have to travel to the office weekly. But I said no matter what, I’m taking it. And it was a big thing for me. I’ve worked with 3 teams here, Triveni, Media and Communications, and now, Candidate Success. As part of the helpdesk team, I come in direct contact with people with disabilities. I understand their interests and backgrounds and provide recommendations on whether they are job-ready or need more training. Every day there’s a new person, a new story. I can really connect with their challenges, struggles, and aspirations. More than the salary, this motivates me. And as a woman with a disability, financial independence also gives me an identity and makes me feel valued within my family. I've made all the choices for my career. Nobody else has taken those decisions for me. As part of my work, I travel all over to give talks. I’ve never liked traveling before as I face accessibility barriers and stigma from others. But now, it’s my favorite thing as I’ve got good friends to accompany me. They gracefully support me to see places, even when they’re inaccessible. I feel comfortable and safe. Trivandrum and Taj Mahal are some of the recent places I've been to and absolutely loved! The kind of exposure, confidence and opportunities to network I have gotten through my travels are my assets. " Continued in the comments below. - Dhanya Ravi Executive, Candidate Success ‘I Am EnAble India’ is a series of picture stories, where we share the journey of our staff members. Tune in every Wednesday to meet more amazing humans! #IAmEnAbleIndia #MeetTheTeam #BehindTheScenes #EnAbleIndia25 #HumanStories #EmployeeSpotlight #NGOLife #WorkplaceDiversity #Disability #DisabilityAwareness #Disabled #Wheelchair #Inclusion #DisabilityPride
