Our journey continues upwards. We’re excited to share that the Cathay Group, including our airlines, subsidiaries, and associates, reported an attributable profit of HK$3.6 billion in the first half of 2024. We’ve also completely repaid the HK$19.5 billion investment in preference shares and paid a total of HK$2.44 billion in dividends to the Hong Kong SAR Government over its holding period. To maintain our upward trajectory and strengthen Hong Kong’s international aviation hub status riding on the Three-Runway System, we’ve further committed more than HKD100 billion in investments over the next seven years as part of our growth strategy. This includes the purchase of 30 Airbus A330-900 aircraft, expected to be delivered from 2028, poised to provide significant strength to our passenger fleet. To support the accelerating pace of growth, we’ve increased our headcount by 5,000 people this year, bringing our Group total up to 29,000. Adding to the commercial success, we have been named amongst world’s top five best airlines in renowned industry rankings and voted the World’s Best Economy Class, showing incredible progress on our journey to become one of the world's greatest service brands. As we remain on track to reach 100% of our pre-pandemic flight levels within the first quarter of 2025, we’ve also kept an eye on new opportunities, having added 10 new routes this year alone to our global network spanning over 80 passenger destinations, with plans to grow to 100 within 2025. Leading to battles at the Olympic table, behind every move, every shot, are years of unmatched perseverance. Our five table tennis athletes have completed the #Paris2024 with an unyielding spirit in the mixed doubles, men’s singles, women’s singles, and women’s team events. Three-time Olympian #WongChunTing once made Hong Kong history with a career-high No.6 world rankings. Against the eventual gold medalist, Chun-ting fought to make sure he leaves no regrets behind. #DooHoiKem and Wong Chun-ting were in it together for 10 years. From Tokyo to Paris, the pair never faltered. Overcoming injuries, Hoi-kem and Chun-ting made Hong Kong’s best showing ever in the mixed doubles event, reaching top 4. #LeeHoChing was the winner of Hong Kong’s second Olympic table tennis medal. An Olympic veteran of the team, Ho Ching gave her all for their dream. #ZhuChengzhu moved leaps from being the Olympic substitute player to the starting lineup in Paris 2024. Facing an opponent 46 places higher in world rankings, Chengzhu took the challenge head-on. #NgWingLam made her first Olympic appearance as the team’s substitute player. Having witnessed the competition on the world’s biggest stage, Wing Lam sets her mind on growth to take on more challenges. The journey continues for them — #EveryMoveCounts. For over 30 years, we have been sharing a musical journey with the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) as their Official Travel Sponsor. Last week, our Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Lavinia Lau, attended their concert and delivered a speech to show our active support in person.   The performance was a showcase of great artistry to celebrate the orchestra’s 34 years of excellence. Nurturing young talent in arts and culture is always rooted in our DNA. We are glad to play an instrumental role as they pursue their musical dreams.   We wish the young musicians every success in their upcoming 2024 Asian Concert Tour. Every fraction of a second in the Olympic pool is a lifetime of perseverance and personal breakthroughs. Seven #HongKongAthletes braved the waves in multiple events, earning our cheers with fearless performances and unimaginable hard work behind the scenes. Five-time Olympian #AuHoiShun Stephanie held her belief through ups and downs, having trained in Australia for the entire year to earn her ticket to Paris 2024. #ChengCamilleLilyMei swam far to become a mainstay in the relay team. In her third Olympics, Camille gave her all. Behind 22-year-old #KanCheukTung Natalie’s courageous is a decade-long dedication in the sport, from inter-school championships to her Olympic debut. #TamHoiLam set sight on Olympics since she was 6. Now 26 of age, her determination never wavered. #HoIanYentou, the 7th male swimmer in Hong Kong’s history to compete in the Olympics, broke our home city’s record, and achieved the highest ranking for a Hong Kong male swimmer in Paris. At the age of 17, #CheungSumYuet Cindy skipped school for a year to prepare for her Olympic debut. Having fought past immense pressure, Cindy has learnt to believe in herself. Pull no punches, leave no regrets. Our home athletes gave their all on the Olympic badminton court, captivating our hearts with every lunge and advance. Badminton mixed doubles veterans #TangChunMan and #TseYingSuet have been taking on the world together since 2016, once reaching No.2 in world rankings. Riddled with injuries, Ying Suet pushed past the pain with Chun Man, inspiring everyone with their unrelenting spirit. Badminton men’s singles representative #LeeCheukYiu embraced his first Olympic challenge at the age of 27. Against a 3-time Olympian, Cheuk Yiu showed immense resilience to the very last point, and promises to return stronger. Badminton women’s doubles representatives #YeungPuiLam and #YeungNgaTing also made their Olympic debut. Against seeded opponents in their third bout, the duo fought well to hold their own, and even gained the upper hand at one point. Badminton women’s singles representative #LoSinYan Happy has earned her first ticket to the Olympics at the age of 21. Leaving nothing but sweat and tears behind, Sin Yan pledges to continue onwards. They have left their mark in #Paris2024, and their determination will continue to inspire — #EveryMoveCounts. Every move counts, down to the split of a second. Congratulations to #SiobhanHaughey for winning bronze in women's 100m freestyle. With this win, Siobhan has become the most decorated Olympic medal holder in Hong Kong history! Against the world record holder, Siobhan glided past the resistance, the pressure, the expectations with perfection in every stroke, edging out fierce competition by 0.01 second to gain her place on the Olympic podium. The win is no miracle, but the culmination of 22 years of hard work and perseverance. Siobhan showed the world what #EveryMoveCounts is all about.
