Working towards a world in which all people can enjoy health
Sobre nosotros
ISGlobal is a public-private partnership with a longstanding commitment to global health that builds on the existing research, training, and health activities of its founders and strives to contribute to the global effort to improve health worldwide. It is the fruit of an innovative alliance between the ”la Caixa” Foundation and academic and government institutions to contribute to the efforts undertaken by the international community to address the challenges in global health. ISGlobal is a consolidated hub of excellence in research that has grown out of work first started in the world of health care by the Hospital Clínic and the Parc de Salut MAR and in the academic sphere by the University of Barcelona and Pompeu Fabra University. Its working model is based on the generation of scientific knowledge through Research Programmes and Groups, and its translation through the areas of Training and Analysis and Global Development. ISGlobal has been named a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence and is a member of the CERCA system of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The #ISGlobal project 'Quality regenerated water: STOP antibiotic-resistant bacteria' is one of the five research projects selected in the second edition of #DKVImpacta, a programme launched by DKV Seguros in partnership with Impact Hub Barcelona. Thanks to this, one of our teams will develop a kit to detect antibiotic-resistant 'Aeromonas' in water samples. This will allow continuous monitoring of the quality of recovered water and sludge before it is used in irrigation and agriculture. Moving forward together for #GlobalHealth! #AMR #AntimicrobialResistance

Recent studies in India, the UK and China have linked air pollution to osteoporosis, a "silent" disease that affects millions of people worldwide. Pollutants cause inflammation and damage at the cellular level, contributing to the disease. It's vital to tackle pollution for a healthier future.

When the next #pandemic arrives –and, let’s not fool ourselves, it will– there will be no point barricading ourselves inside our countries with our own plans and resources if the pathogen is able to roam freely among our neighbours. Clara Marín (#ISGlobal) writes about this on our blog:

Did you know that less than half of the migrant and refugee population in Catalonia (Spain) know what hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) are, despite being at increased risk? To mark #WorldHepatitisDay, we wanted to review some of the basics, including common myths and misconceptions and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.

"One of the goals of creating new knowledge is for it to have some impact on society. This requires people who understand scientific knowledge and the policy-making process." Clara Marín, Policy Coordinator at #ISGlobal, tells us about what it means to do policy, what made her interested in public health, and the path she followed.
