RET International
Gemeinnützige Organisationen
We alleviate suffering and catalyze sustainable development, in crises, conflicts and fragile contexts.
Info
RET International is an independent, impartial, non-partisan organisation, with no religious or political affiliation. Founded in 2000 by Sadako Ogata, then High Commissioner of UNHCR, RET's mission has been to address the dire need for education in emergencies in fragile contexts for vulnerable young people affected by displacement. At RET, we are committed to assist communities to meet the educational needs, in the broadest sense, of young people made vulnerable by displacement, violence, armed conflict and disasters. Our programs provide young people with the protective environments and necessary skills to face the threats emanating from displacement, such as violence, recruitment into illegal armed groups, child labour, sexual exploitation or narco-trafficking. Through our interventions, we strengthen communities and transform vulnerable young people into responsible, employable and self-reliant citizens.

When you think of humanitarian work, it’s easy to focus on the outcomes—the families who find shelter, the children who go to school, the communities that rebuild after a disaster. But behind every success story is a complex, carefully coordinated effort that brings those results to life. At RET, we’re proud of the impact our programs have around the world, but we also know that this impact is the result of meticulous planning, dedicated teams, and a deep understanding of the challenges on the ground. Here’s a look behind the scenes at how we implement life-changing projects globally: https://lnkd.in/d2Pc5vrk #projects #humanitarian #work #impact #planning #donate

In the Ségou region of Mali, we've been working to improve livelihoods and food security through training in climate-adaptive agriculture and handicrafts, as well as promoting peaceful relations and economic interdependence among communities. As part of our economic development work, we are working with local NGO REFOR to run vocational training programs. We spoke with Damélé Germain, a 23-year-old from Ségou, who has always harbored a passion for sanitary plumbing. Before joining the program, he worked as a moto taxi driver and occasionally as a DJ. Despite his interest in plumbing since childhood, he never had the opportunity to pursue it formally until the program came to his community. On World Humanitarian Day, humanitarian workers in Tillabery came together under the theme "Act for Humanity" to make a real difference. The day began with a heartfelt blood donation drive at the district hospital, addressing the urgent need for blood transfusions during the peak malaria season, when anemia rates are particularly high. The Regional Public Health Directorate praised the effort, calling it a timely and noble act of compassion. As the day unfolded, exhibitions brought to life the impactful work of humanitarian organizations in the region. RET International highlighted its work in education and protection, emphasizing support for refugee, displaced, and host communities. Visitors, including UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and other international organisations, were genuinely appreciative of RET’s contributions. The day concluded with a friendly football match, a joyful way to strengthen the bonds between humanitarian workers and the local community. "I was truly moved by the work presented, especially the initiatives supporting young students and women," shared the Regional Director for Women's Promotion and Child Protection.

For four days in Rugombo commune, RET brought together teachers for a training program focused on enhancing their skills to support children in crises. Schools in the Communal Education Directorate, like many others, face challenges during natural disasters and social upheavals. This training equipped educators with the confidence and tools to care for students during these difficult times. Teachers explored topics like education in emergencies, upholding essential standards, and improving teaching methods. They also refined their French teaching techniques and learned to address gender-based violence in schools. Through assessments, it was clear that these teachers gained valuable skills to navigate their roles and support their students when it matters most. #Burundi #EducationInEmergencies #TeacherTraining
