I always struggled to fit in a regulated environment.

In the classroom, I was a total nerd, shy, and introverted. I was good at maths and my native and foreign languages. Outside of school, I was a rock climber, a writer, a glider pilot in training, a puppeteer, and a ballet dancer. Those two worlds were never intertwined.

In year 5, I organised an expedition with tents, supplies, and a supervising teacher, and I was so convincing that the entire school wanted to go. But I also lived in a communist country, and the school principal wasn’t happy when she heard about it. Nor was my mom. I was grounded for a year.

My dream of being a pilot was crushed when no women were accepted that year. I failed the admission exam because I was prepared for math and physics, but the University I chose on the brim was literature. Later, I started studying economics and marketing, which became handy when I opened my side gig, a small but mighty marketing and advertising agency, that grew nicely over the years. No project was too big or too small for us. My team was spread across Europe and my office was in the car for many years, way before a global team became trendy and work-from-anywhere was a thing.

Then all went tits up. When my husband and I decided to emigrate to Australia in 2016, so our kids could experience a better society.

There is nothing easy about starting over with three children at nearly half of a century of age and 15,000 kilometres away from your native land.

The moment you remember who you were is when your life restarts. I am a dreamer, a writer, a pilot, a dancer, and some more. I’ve always been.
