Last week, the Wugularr and Barunga teams put their learning hats 🧢 on and completed a chemical training course ☣ with Adam Stanton from the Batchelor Institute. Here's what they covered: ◾ How to transport and store chemicals ◾ How to prepare and apply chemicals to control pests, weeds and disease ◾ Chemical safety and the correct PPE when working with chemicals The skills and information they gained will be very useful, particularly for their horticulture work at the Katherine Research Station or when they help out the Rangers and local Council. A big thank you to Paul from Roper Gulf Council for helping out with the chemical storage during the training 🙌🏽 Great work everyone! Our Wugularr team are still working hard on their gardening project 🌾🌶 They've now made the concrete garden beds, collected and delivered soil, and the seedlings they've been raising in their shade shed have been planted! This project has been super popular and we love to see how keen the fellas are to get involved. They are now well on their way to providing fresh food for their family's dinner tables. Awesome work guys, we can't wait to see your garden flourish 🍅🥒🌱 #HomeGrownFood #HealthyEating #Horticulture #Wugularr #WorkingTogether #CommunityPride #NyirrunggulungRISE

We are proud and excited to announce that, along with our partner the Institute of Skills and Training Australia, we have been granted funding by the Northern Territory Government to expand on our much-loved Kukimbat Gudwan Daga cooking program! Kukimbat Gudwan Daga means 'Cooking Good Food' and has been run twice for our Wugularr and Barunga communities. The ladies in the previous program have loved learning culinary skills and cooking restaurant quality meals, under the guidance of Chef and Trainer Kieran 👩🏽🍳 We are overjoyed to receive this funding and start a 12-week program that takes them to the next level - learning hospitality, food service and café and restaurant management skills! For this program, we're also excited to launch a men's course which will be run alongside our women's course. Stay tuned for more after we launch in October! #HospitalityTraining #KukimbatGudwanDaga #CookingGoodFood #HospitalitySkills #WorkingTogether #CommunityPride #Wugularr #Barunga #NyirrunggulungRISE

Yesterday, Nyirrunggulung-RISE opened the doors of our Katherine Training Hub to students and educators from Barunga Community School 🔨 We're partnering up with the school to run work days for the senior students, who will be mentored by our team. This will give them some practical building experience, a different learning environment and they get to make items to use at home. For some of the students, we hope it will spark an interest in a career in construction or another trade 👷🏽♂️ We started with a tour of the Hub followed by a session on safe operating procedures in a work shed. We then introduced them to some of the tools and machines we use with a safety briefing 🦺 on each one. It was great to see both young men and women interested in this opportunity. We look forward to our first students coming in for their work day! #KatherineTrainingHub #BarungaCommunitySchool #CareersInConstruction #WorkingTogether #CommunityPride #StudentEngagement #Barunga #NyirrunggulungRISE

Keen to continue growing food when the weather gets hot, our Wugulaar team have created a shady solution ☂ This week, they constructed two shade sheds for their planter beds and seedlings. They've also been researching the best plants to grow in the hotter months. Great team work on display and we love seeing their passion for horticulture growing 🌱 each week! #HomeGrownFood #HealthyEating #Horticulture #Wugularr #WorkingTogether #CommunityPride #NyirrunggulungRISE

What would you do with an abundance of home grown tomatoes? 🍅 Our men's teams whipped up a delicious pasta bake to enjoy together and even had leftovers to take home. We love to see them making the most of the fresh produce they grow and it's great to see the pride they have for their gardens 🥰 There's nothing more rewarding than enjoying the fruits of your labour! A big thank you to the Katherine Research Station for supporting their horticulture learning and aspirations 🙌🏽 #HomeGrownFood #HealthyEating #Horticulture #Binjari #KatherineResearchStation #WorkingTogether #CommunityPride #NyirrunggulungRISE

Nyirrunggulung-RISE are working with Katherine Research Station to monitor Fall Armyworms 🐛, a tropical pest in the NT. We've set up traps at our vegetable plot as the Fall Armyworms are attracted to corn plants 🌽 Every week, our Binjari team will check it, take photos and report back to the Katherine Research Station team. This project aligns perfectly with the Bio-Security training course we're doing in September! We'll be learning about insect and weed control and the team are looking forward to expanding their horticulture knowledge. #Biosecurity #Horticulture #Binjari #KatherineResearchStation #WorkingTogether #CommunityPride #NyirrunggulungRISE
