A special ceremony was held in Western Australia's Kimberley region on the weekend, as Seabourn Cruise Line made cruise history, by naming Traditional Owners as Godparents of their newest ultra-luxury expedition ship. The day-long celebration and naming ceremony allowed guests on the inaugural Seabourn Pursuit voyage to the Kimberley region to immerse themselves in Aboriginal culture and history. Traditional Owners Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation and Seabourn President Natalya Leahy exchanged gifts to celebrate their new relationship. Seabourn guests Vince and Jane Roig, who have sailed on every Seabourn inaugural voyage on the current 7-ship fleet, also presented the Traditional Owners with a symbolic gift of art supplies. “This day marks a very special event with the christening of Seabourn Pursuit, our newest ultra-luxury purpose-built expedition ship. This is a wonderful maritime tradition, and today is extra special for us because we asked the Wunambal Gaambera to be the ship's godparents, which marks the beginning of long sustainable partnership between our brand and this community. We know our guests visit these wonderful places in the world because they believe in the transformative power of travel, and today we celebrate exactly this," said Natalya Leahy. “We are honoured to be the godparents of Seabourn Pursuit and share our culture with their crew and guests. It's good to see our people working on Country and sharing our unique culture in the right way. Living and working on Country is important for us. When we are living and speaking language on Country, we are healthy. Thank you, Seabourn, for your support. Biyanga graa winya – Welcome," said Catherine Goonack, Chair, Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation. It was truly a special, and historic day. Carnival Cruise Line is a proud supporter of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation, raising money through our Conga For Kids on each Carnival Splendor sailing. This week the CCL team visited the Children's Hospital at Westmead to see how the money is spent - what an inspiring and emotional visit! Kara Glamore and Cruise Director Simon London, along with the Splendor FUN squad, toured the hospital and met staff who work on providing care and support to families, as children face daunting and scary hospital visits. The staff help the children and their parents, by educating them on what will happen during their hospital stay, providing crucial guidance in a way the children can understand. It was a wonderful lesson for all of us, on the bravery of little children facing overwhelming health fights so early in life. We are proud to support the work the hospital staff are doing. Carnival Cruise Line has joined sister line P&O Cruises Australia in also coming to the rescue of Australians stranded in Vanuatu following the collapse of Air Vanuatu! CCL came to the aid of 8 Australians and one New Zealander, who were visiting the island of Santo when the airline cancelled all flights, leaving them no way home. Carnival Cruise Line responded by offering to bring the group home on board Carnival Splendor, allowing them to return safely to Sydney. The group boarded Carnival Splendor Thursday (23 May) and will enjoy a day in Vila before a relaxing four-night sail on the way back. Kara Glamore, Vice President of Carnival Cruise Line Australia said "Helping these people get home safely reflects our commitment to community support and humanitarian aid. We are so pleased to provide this group a safe and enjoyable return home”. Carnival Splendor will return to its home port in Sydney on May 28. We thank the Vanuatu Tourism Office for their assistance in helping us rescue this stranded group! Peter Little Teresa Lloyd Kara Glamore Amy Ward Vanuatu Tourism Office Lynne Scrivens Brad Coyne
