Renewable energy from ACEN

About us

ACEN Australia is the platform representing ACEN’s renewable energy assets in Australia. With more than 1 gigawatt (GW) capacity of large scale renewable energy generation in construction and operations, and more than 13GW capacity in the development pipeline, its portfolio includes solar, wind, battery and pumped hydro projects across Australia. New England Solar (Stage 1) in NSW is ACEN Australia’s first operational project. It is one of Australia’s largest solar projects participating in the National Electricity Market (NEM) and is the largest solar project in Australia to be financed on a fully merchant basis. Stubbo Solar in the NSW Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone is ACEN Australia’s second project, which commenced construction in late 2022. With 100+ employees and growing, our people are based in Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and West Australia. A partner of UPC Renewables since 2018, ACEN (formerly AC Energy) increased its ownership in UPC\AC Renewables in 2021 to be 100% by early 2023. This acquisition marked a strategic pivot for ACEN, as the company embarked on its first wholly owned development and operations platform outside of the Philippines. ACEN’s strong Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance underpins its interactions with its employees and partners, the communities we are part of and the environment that we all share. The Australian team will continue its work in contributing to Australia’s transition to a clean energy future.

Only in Australia would you find 6,000 sheep grazing beneath solar panels on 2,000 ha! Representing a win-win, underneath the panels of New England Solar near Uralla in NSW, the sheep graze on the lush green grass. At the same time their grazing reduces the risk of fires to the area. Between health checks, vaccinations and drenching, the sheep undergo a 6-week rotation for their wellbeing and to prevent congestion. New England Solar is a registered power station under the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target, which we administer. Need to see it to believe it 👉 https://bit.ly/3Z1EShY #RenewableEnergy #RenewableEnergyTarget #SolarFarm

ACEN Australia welcomes the Independent Planning Commission’s (IPC) approval of its Birriwa Solar and Battery project. The approval is a significant milestone for ACEN, as we progress development of our 13GW pipeline across Australia, adding to our existing 400MWac New England Solar and 400MWac Stubbo Solar projects. We anticipate construction will commence in late 2026 or early 2027, with energy generation from the project anticipated around 2029, in line with the CWO REZ timeframes. We thank the local community, Mid-Western Regional Council, Warrumbungle Shire Council and our other stakeholders for their ongoing feedback during the development phase. We will continue to consult and engage with the community, as well as local businesses and partners as we prepare for construction.  More information: https://lnkd.in/g6frxY3G

ACEN Australia is proud to once again support the Clean Energy Council's Chloe Munro Scholarship for Transformational Leadership, which supports emerging and mid-level female leaders in the fields of renewable energy, energy management and carbon abatement.   The Chloe Munro Scholarship for Transformational Leadership was established in recognition of the enormous legacy of the late Chloe Munro AO.   Recipients each undertake a leadership course to enhance their existing leadership skills, establish a strong network to support each other and further build their leadership capability and drive collaboration to continue to change the Australian energy system.   Through our Social Investment Program, ACEN Australia supports four key value areas that provide benefit to the communities in which we operate - community enhancement and resilience, education and work, reconciliation, and environment. We extend this philosophy to our sponsorship of the Chloe Munro Scholarship which provides valuable educational opportunities to woman in the renewable energy industry.   For details on eligibility and how to apply visit: https://lnkd.in/gqR5Wn29   Applications close on Wednesday 14 August 2024. #WomenInRenewables #ChloeMunroScholarship

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome our 100th team member into our growing team of passionate individuals!    What started as a visionary idea back in 2016, spearheaded by our Managing Director David Pollington and former CEO Anton Rohner, laid the foundation for what ACEN Australia is today - a dedicated team of 100 (and growing) purpose-driven professionals striving to make a meaningful contribution to Australia’s renewable energy transition by developing, constructing and operating renewable energy projects across the country. To each member of our incredible team, past and present, we extend a heartfelt thank you. Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in reaching this milestone, and we are proud to celebrate each and every one of you. We’re also deeply appreciative of the support of our communities and partners who have been with us since the beginning and who have joined us along the way. It takes a community to champion the renewable energy transition, and we are grateful for your ongoing collaboration.   Last week, we marked this special occasion with a morning tea where our teams came together across our offices and sites to connect, celebrate and reflect. It was a moment to pause and appreciate how far we’ve come and get excited for what the future will bring.   Here's to the continued growth and success of ACEN Australia!    #ACENAustralia #RenewableEnergy #TeamCelebration #MilestoneAchievement

Yesterday at New England Solar, we were thrilled to host the unveiling of renewable energy retailer Flow Power's new partnerships with Asahi Beverages and BaptistCare to source and offset energy from our New England Solar project. ACEN Australia Managing Director David Pollington said the agreement with Flow Power is another milestone for the company’s inaugural project, New England Solar, which stands as a major contributor to the NEM. “We have a bold strategy to help Australia transition to a clean energy future, and we are excited by this offtake with Flow Power, enabling us to bring more renewable energy projects to life and clean electricity for Australian homes and businesses.”

Yesterday, at New England Solar near the town of Uralla, Flow Power was proud to unveil new partnerships with Australia's leading beverages company, Asahi Beverages and a leading provider of aged care and community services, BaptistCare. Underscoring each organisation’s commitment to meeting their renewable energy targets, this arrangement will see Asahi and BaptistCare purchase an amount of renewable energy that New England Solar will put in to the grid, with the equivalent amount of their consumption recognised as having zero emissions. 🍻 Asahi will purchase an estimated 30,000 MWh annually – the equivalent of powering around 4,400 homes in NSW for a year. 🏠 BaptistCare will purchase an estimated 15,000 MWh annually, allowing them to reduce the carbon footprint of their NSW and ACT operations by 70% - playing a key role in the organisation’s plan to become net zero no later than 2050. Flow Power is proud to partner with ACEN Australia, owner and operator of New England Solar, a project that sets the industry standard for sustainability and community consultation. 🔗Read the full media release via: https://lnkd.in/gJM2RX6X

This week marks NAIDOC Week – an opportunity for all Australians to deepen their learning about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrating the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.   At ACEN Australia, as a company seeking to harness wind, solar and water resources for energy today, we reflect on the contributions made by First Nations over thousands of years. We recognise the value of a better understanding of Aboriginal history and culture, and commit to meaningful participation with First Nations groups to support the protection of country, culture, and the development of their aspirations.   Throughout NAIDOC Week our teams have celebrated in meaningful activities and discussions at our New England Solar and Stubbo Solar sites.    At New England Solar, our team participated in a Smoking Ceremony, followed by insightful discussions on the significance of NAIDOC Week and what it means to the local Anaiwan people.   Our Stubbo Solar construction site was honoured to have Kerryann Stanely, a proud Wiradjuri woman from the Binjang clan of Wellington. Kerryann shared her invaluable cultural insights and lived experiences with our team, fostering a deeper appreciation for Wiradjuri heritage with all on site. Additionally, the Stubbo Solar team also organised a special artwork loan collaborating with the CUC Mudgee Region Campus as part of NAIDOC Week. The artwork by Wiradjuri artist Rick Slaven titled ‘Future Endeavours’, was commissioned by Stubbo Solar last year and has been loaned to the CUC Mudgee Region Campus for the duration of NAIDOC Week. The artwork symbolises the Stubbo Solar project sitting in the new landscape of Wiradjuri Country catching and storing the power of the sun. This week has reinforced our commitment to cultural respect, education, and collaboration as we strive for a sustainable future. #NAIDOC2024 #IndigenouscCulture #Inclusion #CultureRespect
