𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗲𝘇 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 Three years after the "Ever Given" incident blocked the Suez Canal, the lessons on supply chain vulnerabilities remain as relevant as ever. The economic impact, estimated between $1 billion and $10 billion, reminded us how fragile our global shipping networks can be, especially under stress. Today, we face new challenges. The recent Houthi attacks have raised questions about the stability of global value chains and the potential for rising shipping costs. Real-world disruptions include: ◼️ Tesla: 14-day factory shutdown near Berlin ◼️ Volvo: 3-day assembly line idle in Ghent, Belgium ◼️ Suzuki Motor Corp.: Week-long halt in Hungary, awaiting parts from Japan With Europe's heavy reliance on the Suez Canal, these detours have exposed the vulnerabilities of Just-in-Time (JiT) planning, particularly within the automotive sector. Over the next 𝟭𝟬𝟵𝟰 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, companies and #EU governments will train supervisors and optimise supply chains, ensuring robust due diligence processes and corporate accountability. 👎The reality? According to the World Benchmarking Alliance, 80% of the 2,000 most influential companies – many of which must comply with CSDDD – score ZERO on the initial steps to HRDD implementation. The EU Deforestation Regulation is coming… but beyond that, there’s a lot we still don’t know. The legal and compliance landscape is complicated, which is why Prewave offers specialised guidance for companies affected by EUDR. We’re here to help you comply with upcoming legislation, ensure high standards for sustainability and – most importantly – keep your business moving. ✅ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗘𝗨𝗗𝗥 ✅ 📆 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 From December 30, you’ll need to prepare due diligence statements that confirm deforestation-free status for products and commodities imported into, traded within, or exported out of the EU. 🐄 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲. If you’re trading soy, cattle, oil palm, wood, cocoa, coffee or natural rubber – or selling products that contain them – you’ll need to be able to prove that the relevant commodities weren’t produced on land deforested after December 31st, 2020.  🤯 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹. To do this, you will need to map, analyse, and evaluate global supply chains to mitigate adverse environmental and social impacts. 👩🏼⚖️ 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀. Non-compliance can result in fines up to 4% of annual EU turnover and confiscation of non-compliant products. ❓𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲❓ 🇪🇺 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. Some EU Member States have yet to designate enforcement authorities, which could impact uniform enforcement.  📚 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. The European Commission is set to release detailed guidelines and an updated FAQ, but many are still pending.  ⏰𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲.There are possible delays in EUDR implementation, with calls for more preparation time to ensure effective enforcement. 📈𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. A system to classify countries based on deforestation risk is expected by Q4 2024. 🌲 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗽. The first version for 2020 is available, but its legal sufficiency for compliance is still debated. 💻𝗗𝘂𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺.
