849. Mexico Part 1 | Los Cabos

leftbanked despacito los cabos
I haven't updated my blog at all since arriving in Los Cabos 4 months ago. It has definitely been the longest gap in all my (14!!) years of blogging. Since April we've had this place as our base. The first weeks we had some friends visiting from Canada so I didn't have much time. Then in May we spent a couple of weeks in Mexico City and Oaxaca. From there I visited Toronto in June, for the first time since we embarked on this "world trip". It was nice to see my family and dog after so long. I spent a couple weeks there before returning to Los Cabos. Now we are here for a couple more weeks before we go back to Europe/Spain.

So there isn't much to do in Los Cabos. If you're just coming for vacation, I think 3 days is enough to see the sights and everything. Pretty much the only place we go is the beach lol. There's also some nearby towns we visited a few times which I will show in the next post.

One of the first meals. The best garlic shrimp I've ever had! This restaurant is called Pata Salada. They specialize in seafood. For the most part, the food in Cabo is not really good (mostly overpriced and touristy) but I like this place a lot.

I guess the ony attraction in Los Cabos is The Arch (first pic of this post). You have to book a boat tour here which only takes about 20 minutes. Along the way you see some beaches including Lovers Beach in the photo above. We had the option of staying on the beach for an hour. Then we got picked up by the boat again to bring us to the Arch.

848. Tallinn Part 3 | Medieval Restaurants

Olde Hansa Tallinn
The old town in Tallinn has a lot of medieval style buildings and restaurants. We visited three of them. The main one is Olde Hansa which is one of my favourite restaurants here. We came here for the first time on our first day in Tallinn then several times after. It's a huge space, with 3 (or 4) floors. The staff are dressed in medieval garb and even speak the part (and they reuse the same jokes). Sometimes they have live music playing themed music. Inside it's quite dark and only lit with candles. Even though it's a touristy place, the food is really good. The photo above shows their entrance, where they have a stand selling freshly roasted honey-coated almonds.

Another place we went is Ill Draakon. I really loved it here too. It's a tiny tavern style place inside the town hall building. The photo above shows the entrance. Their menu is extremely limited but everything is delicious and very cheap.

Lastly we also went to Peppersack. I liked it here as well but the experience in the other two restaurants are a lot more authentic. Here I had moose meat.

844. Luxembourg

Luxembourg
First post of 2022! We celebrated Christmas and New Year's here in Tallinn. The past couple years have felt quite strange due to the pandemic and our travels. I can't quite keep track of time. The year went by in a blur. Last year for the holidays we were in Morocco, which doesn't even feel like a year ago already. Sometimes I forget which month it is and it didn't feel like Christmas at all this year. Even though in Tallinn, we were in the right atmosphere for it - lots and lots of snow and a Christmas market we often walked by. For new year's we walked out to an open space close to our place and saw the fireworks around us. In Tallinn there isn't one central place for the celebrations and fireworks. They do them in several places around the city and on a smaller scale.

Rewinding back to October, after visiting Strasbourg, we took the train to Luxembourg. We mainly went there to visit my friend Anouk who I haven't seen in years! If you've followed my blog for awhile, we first met in person back in 2012 in Paris - both of us were on vacation. She lives in Luxembourg so I've always wanted to visit her there someday. Finally 9 years later I made it lol. In between we've taken trips together to Capri, London and Western Canada, and she's also visited me in Toronto a few times. Hope we will be able to meet again soon..somewhere else in the world!

We stayed in Luxembourg for 2 nights. It's a tiny place and possible to see everything within hours. Unfortunately I was quite sick during those days (it was right after I took my first vaccine dose as well, which was probably the cause) but had a great time. It was nice to catch up. It is a beautiful little place and felt kind of like a fairytale village or one you see on chocolate boxes.
