I can buy that theory, but I don't subscribe to the theory, mentioned many times here, that the last song on every Lana album predicts the thematic, lyrical, and musical direction of the next album.

Since TRPWS was put together over some four years, I don't see how OB's colorings could influence it in a major way. Since I'm not an OB fan for the most part, I hope it doesn't.

the last three songs on Ocean Blvd felt more like bonus tracks to me, like the three known unreleased songs on BB before Sweet Carolina.

But Sweet Carolina was indeed a foreshadowing for The Grants and on TRPWS she could continue with the wedding theme from Margaret

Definitely old money for me also,  in The Grants the lyrics ‘My grandmother's last smile, I'm gonna take that too with me’ made me bawl I won’t lie, I had recently lost my grandmother too so it hit too close.  I have a feeling TRPWS will probably have a few tear jerkers, hopefully more the happy sad kind.

Sorry to learn of the loss of your grandmother. Let her legacy live on within you. That's one great way to honor her.

Sad songs are one of Lana's fortes, obviously, though I certainly don't see her music as 'sad girl shit,' as I've heard some do (not here). I still label all her music Hollywood Sadcore. And she's covered such a wide range of emotional vulnerability and pain, probably more than any other artist since 1990 or so, maybe going back even longer.

Tori Amos comes close , but she often has to mix in her personal brand of feminine defiance of all things, as well as her politics, which I find it tiring.

Based on her albums since BTD, I think Lana can do almost anything, any theme, any type of song, any genre, which is why I had confidence she could have pulled off Lasso as originally conceived.

If Lana is predominantly happy on TRPWS, great. I wouldn't mind seeing an entire 'happy' Lana album as long as it's not as middle-of-the-road- as Life is Beautiful. I also love the Lana of AmericanMeet Me in the Pale Moonlight, and Making Out.

But Sweet Carolina was so surface and upbeat, to me, it doesn't foreshadow OB, because the family-themed tracks on OB were so heavy.

To me, NFR felt like a switch from the previous albums (BTD, UV, HM, LFL), and I have a feeling this will album will be a switch of sorts from the latest albums, not just lyrically with less personal details but sonically too. :)

I fear this won't happen until she stops with the stripped back songs and drops jack antonoff

Don’t get me wrong, Henry sounds great, but it being the lead single for TRPWS doesn’t really excite me…

I see Henry as a winter single, almost like a standalone thing, even though I know it’s the lead to the new album. The melody of Henry and her voice are so nice from what we’ve heard, so great for the dark winter days.

It’s nice and I 100% want it on the track list, I just don’t want it to set the tone for the rest of the album if that makes sense

Yeah, I agree. I feel like the latest albums she's done, while they are brilliant, they don't pull me in as much as her earlier albums do. I think it's because Lana has always been the queen of aesthetics and making her music encapsulate that. But on her recent projects, that magic has been lost, or at least dimmed down. I don't know why, but I have hopes that this album will bring her back to that magic, sonically and lyrically :troll:

so everyone's talkin about the mirror and past present future, does anyone have the receipts for those? maybe they'll be named differently or something, but i don't wanna run away w all that not being confirmed.

I had to go back and check with my timeline - an anonymous user on d*ree claimed that the intro Fenway song was called In God’s Time and was to be released in the upcoming weeks. Which didn’t happen. I’m not sure who first called it The Mirror though.
