Background
I. Controlling climate change is our responsibility
In recent years, climate change has caused many negative impacts on human society, and controlling climate warming has gained wide consensus in the international community. Multiple studies have shown that achieving reductions in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is currently the most effective means for humanity to avoid climate catastrophe. In December 2020, General Secretary Xi Jinping announced at the Climate Ambition Summit that China's carbon dioxide emissions per unit of gross domestic product should drop by more than 65% in 2030 compared to 2005.In March 2021, the 14th National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China Five-Year Plan and Outline of Vision 2035" was released, and the document proposes to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions per unit of GDP by 13.5% and 18% respectively during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. Under the major goal of controlling climate change, it is not only a social responsibility but also a great historical mission for all sectors of society to strive to achieve peak carbon and carbon neutrality.
The concepts of peak carbon and carbon neutrality
Peak carbon: Peak carbon refers to a point in time when carbon dioxide emissions stop growing and reach a peak, after which they gradually decline.
Carbon Neutral: Carbon neutral means that the total amount of carbon dioxide or greenhouse gas emissions produced directly or indirectly by a country, enterprise, product, activity or individual within a certain period of time can be offset by planting trees, energy saving and emission reduction to achieve a positive or negative offset and achieve relative "zero emissions".
