Losing valuable photos due to damaged storage devices or system malfunctions is a very common occurrence. This is when a program like Stellar Repair for Photo comes handy. It is a simple program devoted exclusively to the repair of damaged photos and other image files.
After installing and opening the program, you only need to choose the file(s) you need to repair by clicking on the "+" symbol, which will let you select the folder where the images are stored. By default, all the images you open are selected to repair, but you can unselect those you want to omit. Also, you can add more images from other folders if you want.
After clicking on the "Repair" button, the program will start working on the repair process. This will take a while, depending on the amount and size of files, an on the speed of your system.
You will receive a notification when the process is completed. Then, the program will show the name of the repaired file and of its thumbnail, as well as their respective size. In the corresponding file was severely damaged, only the thumbnail will appear. Finally, you can save the repaired file(s) in the device of your choice.
An important advantage is that the program supports most of the formats used by digital cameras, including RAW, which is used by many professionals. If I needed to cite a disadvantage, it would be that the interface is kind of dull, which has nothing to do with the functionality of the program. Also, being aimed to average users, the program does not have any advanced functions. If you are an advanced user, you may need the Professional or Premium versions.
The shareware version only shows a preview of the repaired files with a watermark. Also, it does not allow you to save the files. If you want to get rid of these limitations, you will need to purchase a license.
