Mobile Data Transfer. Part II: iOS → PC Mobile Data Transfer. Part II: iOS → PC

As I've already mentioned in my previous article 'Mobile Data Transfer. Part I: Android → PC', file transfer is an inevitable fate of all mobile devices since there are a lot of reasons to move data, from harmless new phone/tablet purchase or file sharing to unpleasant memory overfilling or a broken device. I've covered a very important subject in the sphere of mobile data transfer which is about moving files from Android device to PC or laptop.

Let me remind you of the three most general&popular schemes of data transfer:

  •  Phone/tablet → Computer
  •  Phone/tablet → Phone/tablet
  •  Phone/tablet → Cloud

Today, I'd like to settle upon a topic which also belongs to the first category: it's data transfer from iOS devices to PC/laptop.

Wifi Sync

The first method I'd like to cover stands for how to move your data via home WiFi working in tandem with iTunes Sync. Under 'home' WiFi I imply a local area network which your PC is connected to. Bear in mind that this step will lead to every further file automatic synchronization. This method is most suitable for transferring multimedia files as well as books and apps.

Well, to start the synchronization process, enter the Settings → General iTunes Wi-Fi sync →tap Sync Now.

N.B. iOS 5.0 or higher is required.

USB Cable

One more way to transfer files from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your Windows computer is over connecting a device via a USB cable and working in conjunction with iTunes. To begin, make sure to connect your updated iOS device to a computer with an up-to-date Windows version installed. Then, open the latest version of iTunes and pick one of the apps which support a file-sharing function (if you need any help here, check the official page and find the 'See which of your iOS apps can share files with your computer' section).

Onwards, you have 2 ways to copy files:

  1. select files and click 'Save to' to choose a destination folder;
  2. drag&drop files to a particular window or a folder.

Congratulations! Your files are now on your computer.

E-Mail Box

E-mail cannot be called the most convenient and fastest data transfer method, but it is, undoubtedly, one of the ways out. Its most obvious advantage is independence from a wireless network. You can use 3G or 4G to be able to transfer data on the go. But it doesn't mean that you should decline WiFi for the benefit of mobile telecommunication technologies. Use your e-mail box on your phone/tablet to send data from you to yourself, then open them on your computer or laptop. Save attached files from an inbox message to provide any further manipulations.
