Yes, the antivirus comes with a built-in Toolbar installation feature. This means that when you install the application, a browser toolbar will be installed for your browsers as well. All the compatible browsers need to be closed for the installation to complete successfully.
If you don't want to install it, choose the custom installation method when you install Avira for the first time and uncheck the toolbar.
When I launch Avira Free Antivirus, a process called avnotify.exe appears that is not the antivirus itself. Is it adware?

The avnotify.exe process is an application available within Avira that displays nag screen, virus info, upgrade information, etc. This is somewhat used to display promotions as well, and many users considered the app as being spyware. You can disable it using the following commands:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.exe
Assign a checkmark under the DENY column for “read and execute”.
Next, start registry using Start > Run > regedit and navigate to this key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Locate the key with the avgnt.exe /min /ns process and assign /nosplash at the end. Reboot and the avgnotify.exe won't appear anymore.
Avira Free Antivirus doesn't have an ad-blocking module. You will need a browser extension to do that. However, if you choose to install the security toolbar provided by the Avira, then the ads should be blocked automatically. However, I recommend installing AdBlock to make it more effective. The AdBlock extension can be installed through the Extension store available in almost all the browsers released until now.

After scanning my Avira Free Antivirus shuts down the computer. How to fix it?

Alex Urbach
You need to go to Settings/Setup menu and configure the scanning so that it does not shut down the computer when it is finished. This setting is often used on many antivirus solutions to prevent infection.
The updates are automatically deleted when you perform a new update of the main application. You don't need to worry about this since the process is automatic.
To uninstall Avira, first visit the official support website and follow the instructions presented for each operating system. If at the end of the installation you encounter errors, there is a manual uninstallation guide which explains the steps required by the user to properly remove the application from the computer. You can visit both links on the support website available for all users.
When Antivirus finds a virus on a PC, is it removed or is going to quarantine? What is the full procedure of removing a virus?

Sean Hill
The quarantine is usually located inside the program's installation folder (C:\Program Files\Avira Antivirus) but the files are not directly accessible to prevent additional infection. When instructed, the application automatically removes the virus from your computer using advanced techniques.

In order to update the antivirus, you need to press the F9 key or to click the Update button next to Help menu. If it doesn't work, navigate to the official web page and download and install the latest version manually, because the problem can be caused by the Avira servers. If you have issues, I recommend you contact the support team.
