"Pushed, provoked and desperate she will do anything to get her family back." Netflix has revealed the full-length official trailer for a series called Unseen from South Africa. Available to stream worldwide later in March. Who is Zenzi Mwale? Netflix's new six-part crime thriller Unseen narrates the story of a nondescript domestic worker who goes on a desperate search for her missing husband, and along the way she comes up against powerful and violent criminals. Her reaction to the immense and immediate danger she faces is not as timid as she seems. Starring Gail Mabalane as Zenzi Mwale, the series includes an impressive list of South African actors such as Rapulana Seiphemo, Vuyo Dabula, Colin Moss, Shimmy Isaacs, and Dineo Langa. This looks like it might be a good series, though the music choice for this trailer is a bit odd considering the dark mood and intensity of everything happening.

Thin characterisation and a superficial critique of wealth inequality post-apartheid keep Uga Carlini’s fiction in first gear
The colourful opening of Uga Carlini’s Angeliena suggests a giddy ride awaits: the camera follows a suitcase plastered with travel stickers moving along a conveyor belt at an airport. But such vibrant detail only points up the film’s lack of emotional substance. A parking attendant for a posh hospital in South Africa, Angeliena (Euodia Samson) dreams of travelling the world, she adorns her little shack with tourist posters from faraway lands. At work, Angeliena brings a glow to the austere parking lot, pinning red roses that she grows herself to the windscreen wipers of fancy SUVs.
Such sweet-natured actions are presumably intended to endear Angeliena to us, yet reduce her to a unidimensional worker with a heart of gold. The thinness of the characterisation is made more pronounced by the...

"If I have learned anything, it's to not get too attached." Netflix has released the official trailer for a cute, cheesy holiday romantic comedy titled Holiday in the Wild - available to watch at the end of this month. Formerly known as Christmas in the Wild, but we all know anything will sell better when you only say "holiday" instead of "Christmas" and don't offend anyone. Right. Kristin Davis plays Kate, a woman who almost cancels her adventurous African honeymoon when her husband splits. Once she has touched down in Africa, however, she gets a second chance at romance with Derek, a pilot caring for rescued elephants. Also starring Rob Lowe, with John Owen Lowe, Colin Moss, Thandi Puren, and Lynita Crofford. This looks like one of those super campy Hallmark romance movies they churn out, but this one is from Netflix. Here's the first trailer (+ poster) for Ernie Barbarash's Holiday in the Wild,...

The premise behind Then Came You is a tough sell. A hypochondriac attends a support group for people dying of cancer, befriends one said person, and helps her fulfill a demented bucket list while allowing her lack of boundaries to shove him into the arms of the woman he’s been too afraid to ask out. It’s a sort of rom-com spin on Fight Club‘s Jack and Marla getting off on others’ sorrow for the tween sect. There will be initial confusion at the film turning an incurable disease cutesy, disdain for its apparent use of death as an opportunistic avenue towards confidence, and revulsion in thinking the filmmakers might turn the tables and have their lead fall for the wildly eccentric girl who’ll be dead by the end.
Here’s the thing, though. While director Peter Hutchings and writer Fergal Rock have very much delivered the material that allows this weariness,...
