Big red is funny. He chases every other bird away. He being a male is the most photogenic and biggest which makes him the best model too. I thought that I would like more of a chance at getting the other litte hummingbirds that try to sneak in and they drink the nectar from my many flowers, but he finds them and sends them on their way. The male will mate, but right after he is alone because he wants it that way, a life alone, always on the move, always alone. It is Natures way.-Rich

Thanks Colin. Their wings beat 20-80 times a second and their hearts up to 1260 beats a minute.

An impressive, sharp capture, Rich. This must have been tough to snap, as their wings move really fast! A worthy addition to your superb portfolio, Rich. 7.

Sam check out my hummer porfolio and you find you are right most of the time it is hard to stop them. Sometimes they hover or pull back that is the when to shoot. the movment though gives them the look of speed. If you stop them completely it is like shooting a race car at 1/2000th sec, it looks like it is standing still. They weigh 4grs and are as big as a thumb maybe, they fly 30mph in any direction in a 1/10th sec, so I just learn their moves and I am there before they are. Thanks for the kind words-Rich

Great capture....I have shoot a few of those...I have never been able to get their wing stopped like that without moving my shutter speed to 1/1500th of a sec...Very well presented
