Very nice mood and great scene. Great comp and presentation. Grain/noice works, but IMHO there is nothing better then real analog grain. Good work! C.

Oh yeah forget to mention that the photo is a damn fine piece of artistic work with superb grain and tones. No wonder a story can unfold as it has. You are on a roll girl.

...the man stepped off the road and into the dark woods. She reluctantly followed immediately feeling her skates becoming bogged down in the muddy forest floor still damp for the morning rain. The dog chuffed at her side, making quiet whimpering sounds. She said "it's OK Muffy the ducklings are gone"...

She pulled the flowered quilt off her face and rubbed her eyes realizing that hadn't been blood after all, just a dream. Muffy hadn't eaten the baby ducklings. Then she heard her mother's voice. "Muffy! What have you got there?"

I have no literay skills. I write as I talk. I once had a college Prof. tell me, "You write like you talk. It is not special." Becc, you have the muse about ya. You have the knack/talent. I just pound keys. You love it, I just know it is there.... And chapter 2 begins wiff????

lol Jim, none of us could compare to you in literary skills. I have tons of poetry and used to write an occasional short story, before the internet came along. I won't quit my day job though!

Bewildered, she stood there. He took two, three steps. Stopped. Turned. Over his shoulder shot out, "They are taking photos of you. They are watching. They want you. Follow me." And without looking back, knowing the woman and her dog would follow, knowing they would be just curious enough to want in on the secret, walked back the way he had come. The skates held firm. The dog looked up. She was not afraid... yet. But she was curious. At a slow pace, she pushed off and skated in the directon of the retreating man.

"Your eyes are just as hers, as blue as a summer day in the islands. So many times I saw that same look, the fear". He lowered his gaze and turned his back to her.

As they closed, she looked up. Her skates snapped to a stop without a sound but her sharp intake of breath gave her away. The dog, protective and vigilant, set ears back and narrowed his eyes. The man, hands in pockets, did not stop, rather quickened his pace and before she knew it, he was upon them, looking directly into her eyes. Ignoring the bristling dog he said, slowly, softly, but in a voice laden with background knowledge,........

Inside his pocket, his fingers were numb, clenching a locket, old and worn. Inside was a picture, too old to recognize any longer. The chain was long and tangled, from the many times he'd twisted it and wound it around his fingers, one at a time. The metal was cold, but not nearly as cold as the feeling pitted deep within him.

Ok, I admit, I was not taking the line you may have hoped. I will pick up where Becc left off...
His head was down and he looked as if he were counting his steps. Treading deliberately towards a known goal, but in reality, he was looking from under the tattered brim of his Sam Spadish hat, and watching the dog and girl approach.

Around the bend is a man.. walking alone. See, don't let me fill in the blanks. I'll turn it into a murder mystery lol.. Nice shot. The grainy effect works well here.
