Would you believe if I told you that I shot this with a Canon 70-300 IS USM lens ?

The BG is water, by the way. The shot was taken around 6.30 pm - so dark enough; I used a slight long-exposure (abt 1/4 sec) and a tilted POV, so that diagonal streaks are created.

Thanks JD. In fact, that is the ONLY thing I thought while posting this image.. whether I should crop out the right part and make this a square image. But decided against it, eventually.

As for glass, I am not exactly sure what you are asking here - are you asking about the BG orthe detail on the flower ?

Most of the time, when I see images of flowers here at UF, I already start yawning, since 90% of them all have the same attitudes, the same looking, and above all the same mistakes. But here... here we have a strong image!

Technically it is simply brilliant - and thus should be a lesson to be studied very carefully! How the contours are best depicted, how the contrast can be best established to the rest of the world, in order to put the spotlight right on the protagonist, how such sharpest details on the main subject have to be captured... all this is stuff contained in this image. It goes much further than the usual sentimentality, about which many too many and much too often think that it is enough for good photography.

But above all, I notice here something very unusual, that contributes a lot for making this one very special. The overall look contains of course many elements of a "natural appearance", but also many elements of a loaded, depressing silence that we don't often see on similar images. It is way not only yet another "beautiful flower", "beautiful this", "beautiful that".
