February Student Spotlight – Briana!
Briana is a wonderful student, she works very hard in every class. She is always willing to try something new and give it her all! Here is our interview with her…
1. How long have you been dancing? How long at GSD?
Briana: I have been dancing off and on since I was 3. I have been dancing at GSD for 3 years.
2. What is the hardest class you take and why do you think it is hard?
Briana: I think my pointe class is the hardest because you have to take all the technique we learn in regular ballet class and apply then, but with the addition of pointe shoes. But even though it is a hard class, it’s also really fun.
3. You were chosen to perform a piece as Student Choreographer. Tell us how that made you feel?
Briana: I found the experience very challenging but also rewarding. I had to choreograph to the dancers strengths and make sure they were executing the moves correctly. This was kind of hard because I am not a very outspoken person , but had to correct the dancers when they needed it. In the end I was very proud of my dancers and myself. And it was a really fun experience that I will cherish.
4. What is your Dance Dream??? What do you want to accomplish?
Briana: My dance dream is to be a Physical Therapist who helps dancers and other athletes recover from injuries and get back to doing what they love.
5. Do you have any advice for younger dancers that are just starting out?
Briana: My advice is stick with it! Dance is such a rewarding artform because you can always get better. It’s also something you can do for the rest of your life and enjoy.
6. Tell us a favorite performance you have done with GSD , when was it and why is it your favorite.
Briana: Even though it is so hard to pick a favorite, I would have to choose the pointe piece we did in the last winter performance, the costumes were gorgeous, the choreography was just the right amount of classical and sassy and it showed off our technique. Also it was one of the best performances I have done and I even had fun while doing it!
7. What is the most fun dance step you know how to do and why is it fun??
Briana: I like Pique’ turns because I am good at them and they are a fun across the floor exercise. You can even challenge yourself and do doubles.
