Primary objective

Lead all design /drafting activities relating to own discipline on assigned asset.

Liaise with Design Services Coordinator on design / drafting issues.

Specific Accountabilities
- Demonstrate due diligence in managing hazards associated with design carried out for the Asset. Comply with the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, WA.
- Evidence that reasonable steps are taken to identify and comply with applicable Standards and Codes. Hazards are identified systematically and managed effectively. For instance, common hazards are covered by checklists and checklists are used effectively.
- Assist Asset Team Leaders in promoting awareness of our obligations under OSH legislation in the design, manufacture and installation of plant.
- Evidence of OSH awareness within the design team. For example, records of suggestions made by team members.
- Ensure that the design team understand and apply quality management. Ensure design work conforms to the applicable specifications, codes & standards.
- Records of formal and informal quality audits showing compliance.
- Ensure that work is checked effectively before issue.
- Records of checking kept, showing effectiveness of check. No rework due to errors in design.
- In conjunction with Design Services Coordinator, regularly review and challenge design procedures and instructions; simplify and improve them to facilitate awareness, understanding and application.
- Records such as lists showing that procedures and instructions are reviewed periodically and remedial action is taken as required.
- Proportion of RECs & CARs resolved within agreed target time.
- Assist Lead/DSC in conducting regular quality audits.
- Audit reports.
- Assist Lead/DSC by providing training in procedures and instructions as required.
- Training records; level of understanding and awareness amongst designers - as reflected in audit results.
- Ensure that costs are effectively controlled on work assigned to design / drafting personnel within assigned team.
- Cost / budget KPIs for design work.
- Monitor design/drafting estimating norms within asset for own discipline. Overall coordination by DSC
- Develop and promote drafting and CAD initiatives to improve cost effectiveness of design / drafting work within own discipline in consultation with DSC.
- Ensure that the level of design work is appropriate for the complexity of the tasks, achieving a good balance between design costs and implementation costs.
- Provide in-house training opportunities for design / drafting trainees - coordinated by DSC.
- Training records or evidence of competencies developed by trainees
- Allocate design / drafting work to team members. Ensure that within assigned team, personnel work within their competencies and with appropriate supervision.
- Evidence that competency requirements have been considered when work is allocated.
- Estimate cost, time and resource requirements for design / drafting work in cooperation with project engineers and Lead Discipline Engineer within asset.
- Evidence that documents are registered, controlled, tracked and filed effectively - in accordance with procedures, using standard systems.
- Supervise and coordinate design / drafting work for asset within own discipline:
- Preparation of detail designs in conjunction with engineers
- Production of workpacks, drawings and documentation updates
- Work is carried out competently and effectively within time and budget constraints and project objectives are satisfied.
- Liaison with other disciplines on technical issues.
- Quality Assurance - Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the BU, etc
- Safety - Responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the BU, etc . Understand and follow OH&S procedures.

- Draw and interpret sketch.
- Interpret technical drawing.
- Prepare basic engineering drawing.
- Basic engineering detail drafting.
- Advanced engineering detail drafting and checking.
- Advanced mechanical detail drafting.
- Create 2D drawings using computer aided design system.
- Create 3D drawings using computer aided design system.
- Level 6 in a majority of the performance criteria for a majority of the elements in each unit, with performance demonstrated within the Oil & Gas industry. Offshore or onshore experience is required as appropriate for the relevant asset.
- Competency at level 6 involves substantial depth across a number of areas. Evidence is expected of significant judgment in design, technical and supervisory functions related to services, operations or processes. At level 6 competencies are applied with limited guidance.
- Evidence is also expected of responsibility and defined accountability for the management and output of work of others.
- Relevant approved certificate form a state or technical education department or equivalent.
