This is something I’ve always wanted to try. Lots of similar recipes and all make large batches. This one was easy to reduce down to a quarter of the recipe and I noticed it used more ice cream. Still makes a ton! It's an excellent drink for anyone that loves sweet, dessert style drinks. Loved the spice combination, but it didn't have the buttery flavor I was hoping for. I guess too much ice cream isn't a good thing since all I could taste was the vanilla ice cream. I tried to follow the mixing instructions, but it never said how much water to add. I used a cup, but that was way too much and it didn’t have any flavor. Hubby and I just mixed it to suit our tastes. I was worried we’d end up drinking too much, but it is quite filling and one mug was plenty. Definitely did not need the dollop of whipped cream on top! Next time I’m going to try the colonial style buttered rum that is made without ice cream and see if that brings out the butter flavor.

I LOVE hot buttered rum! I have never had one with ice cream or cream though. But it sounds neat to have the mixture waiting in the freezer for you.
It looks absolutely delicious and your picture makes me want a sip right now :D

Thanks, Cosmicmother! I've never had it before and really wasn't sure which recipe to use. There were quite a few on here and all but a couple called for ice cream. After I made this, I found the one from AR that originally caught my eye and it does not have ice cream, but does have whipped cream on top.

It's very pretty DIZ3! My Mom and I Dad used to drink Hot Buttered rums and I always thought they were disgusting. That being said I've never tried one. LOL. Let me know when you've found your fave Hot Buttered rum recipe and perhaps I'll give it a try. :)

I have never had hot buttered rum before either! I actually think the name of it sounds delicious :) It is neat how you can just make a batch and freeze it and have it on hand. Looks yummy!

I've only had hot buttered rum once, and I'm not sure there was even rum in it since there were lots of kids at the party. It was very buttery and smooth tasting, but didn't have spices in it. Now I wish I had gotten the recipe.

Hot buttered rums are very popular in the North-West. I always had the non-alcohol version as a kid made with apple cider instead of water and just butter, sugar and spices served hot. I guess the version I know is just hot apple cider with buttered rum! ;)
Have you ever had butter in coffee? I bet that rum batter would be far out delicious in a cup of strong coffee with some rum or brandy!! :)
