- 12 slices stale bread shopping list
- 10 ounces cubed cream cheese shopping list
- 3/4 cup pitted prunes plumped in hot water and diced shopping list
- 3/4 cup seedless white raisins diced shopping list
- 2 large bananas sliced shopping list
- 1 cup sliced almonds shopping list
- 2 cups water shopping list
- 1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon shopping list
- 2 cups water shopping list
- 1 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 4 eggs separated shopping list
- 4 tablespoons flour shopping list
- Reserved egg whites shopping list
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar shopping list
- sweetened whipped cream or ice cream shopping list
How to make it
- Toast bread and cool.
- Using a well- buttered rectangular baking dish make a layer of bread using about half the bread then top with half the cheese, half the prunes, half the raisins and all the bananas.
- Add another bread layer then the remaining cheese, fruits and nuts.
- Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan boil the water, sugar, and cinnamon together for 5 minutes and pour over the pudding mixture.
- In the same saucepan boil the water and sugar for 5 minutes.
- Remove 1 cup and beat with egg yolks and flour then add this egg mixture to the remaining syrup and cook over medium heat stirring constantly for 5 minutes.
- Pour custard over the bread and fruits.
- Cover and let stand several hours at room temperature or refrigerate overnight.
- When ready to bake the pudding beat egg whites until very stiff beating in the sugar at the last.
- Spread atop the pudding and bake at 350 for 40 minutes.
- Serve small portions with a dollop of ice cream or whipped cream.
